Any interest in getting in 3D printed K2 ambulances. £5 each.
That seems cheap.
We could have one per player.
They are from lancer miniatures.
Extra victory points for anyone bringing a painted one

Ice Cold in Alex is set in 1942 which in the words of the British Official History "British fortunes reach their lowest ebb"; following the defeats at Gazala, the Cauldron and the fall of the "boxes", Tobruck held by the 2nd South African division fell without a fight (there were no orders to defend and many of the mines were removed for the Gazala line). A truly depressing read of story after story of military incompetence..
The Lancer K2 Ambulance (in 20mm at least) are very nice resin prints.
Neil
There will need to be some very stiff upper lips I think.
In the film (at Shepperton studios) they drank actual Carlsberg lager. After a few takes got a little tipsy.
martin :)
Here it is - the advert that made the film famous?

Simon
Looks like I will be Americans.
John
1942, that means Grants and 6 pdrs. Bit too early for the Americans technically as they didn't get involved until November?
QRF do make the K2 but these days a lot of 3D prints are probably available as well ?

Simon
The Italians have put themselves back in; with feathers.
martin :)
I'm unsure of football commitments but if possible I'll come. I've even ordered an Italian army especially for it.
And a dispatchd notice has just come through!
More Italans
Marvellous

Is there room for me too?
I'd have to borrow some Allies to even things up (and my SCW Italians aren't quite desert-ready in any case - I need to do a few more bases and won't have time beforehand).
Simon
I think I can lend you British Simon.

I've taken the liberty of putting you in then Simon ? You can always excuse yourself if you can't ? I think most of us have more than enough each so we could probably put some form of a force together if needed ?
Tanks I have enough for both sides funny thing is my German force is larger than my British even though I ve only painted a few DAK figures ?
Colin did ask when (Have you got a date ?)the PBI release date is Please Martin?
Miles
Thanks Miles.
PBI release date is on the PP website - 1st January!
Simon
PBI should be out in January. Playtesters will get theirs first.
martin
This is shaping up well.
Don't forget to buy a 15mm K2 ambulance from LANCER miniatures for £5.
Extra 3 victory points good enough for motivation?
I will put an ice cold in Alex poster on top of the current PBI stand poster.
martin :)
Do we need to get in a crate of Carlsberg too?
Simon
Bunker Miniatures have the K2Y for £3.

The more nee-naws the better?
Bunker miniatures is in Somerset so one could drive up and pickup a whole box?
A gamette to get continued use from them?
Stewart has sourced some red crosses too.
martin :)

I was tempted to pop in, but see that they're already closed until the new year.
Nice-looking files, though.
Simon
An ambulance gamette could maybe load up casualties or traverse a route.
Later. But it would encourage folk to buy ambulances.
martin :)
My Italians arrived today.
They must have forced marched their way from the workshop at the double! I only ordered it yesterday morning ;D
I've got some sand basing paste from AK Interactive arrives tomorrow.
Whether I make the game day or not the plan is to have the army painted in time just in case.
I will thank Mike and Nigel for good work Sean.
martin :)
Please do Marrin. They need promoting to Corporal.
I ordered mine from QRF on Friday.
So which table is going to have the "spy" ?
Miles
I have put a player update here so that it does not get lost in the greater chat.

Then we probably have enough extra scenery to make an extra table?

The army balance is not important for battle days but it is good if the sides are numerically the same?

I've offered Simon my Desert Rats and I will send him details of what I have after Christmas. I may have a cloth available for the desert but I have very limited scenery (a few buildings and rocky outcrops.
John
Thanks John.
I have various desert pieces from Western I could use.
Simon
I know Colin has both so depending on what you need him to be ?
Miles
Martin,
I can bring a full table set-up if needed.
Mike
Will this be the first game with the newly published rules?
Love to come but have a 90th birthday party to go to.
I'll be there. Have both DAK and 8th Army plus terrain. Colin
We have been using the PBI 2025 for the past two years or so. However, this is only the third PBI day where a printed set has been present.
It will be nice to know the book is ready and finished.

Not heard from Eric or Alan. I assume the above is final.
This gives us 4 tables, with a "double up" somewhere.
We have the 4 tables.
I will bring a spare cloth in case any table set up does not appear.
We will have enough spare scenery to go around I think?
martin :)
Eric has emailed me to say he will attend
I have booked 5 tables for the day

Stewart
Looking like a great day of gaming!
I will go through what I have, I ve probably got enough for most if not all of another table, as long as we don't mind it being more Mediterranean coastal rather than raw Desert ?
Miles
I am using Italians.
I propose using 4 foot platoons and some AT guns.
Italians could be used under the "small force" rule as their patoons are very cheap. Pistol armed officers and no SMG.
Plus an ambulance (game winner?)
martin :)
The Italians can be boosted with the shock platoon though, which I intend to try out once I get to use my Italians.
John
I have Bersigliari to represent a shock platoon, just so they look a bit different.
Those poor ostriches
martin :)
That shock platoon looks very useful.
I won't be fielding one this time, but it is an option that would use up some of the points.
martin :)
I will be adding one to my force, when its turn comes up to be promoted to the painting table...

On a recount, Weymouth Ben and I exactly drew our game, which will no doubt change all your stats :)
Simon
Some photos of my game against Ben - valiant Brits holding off the Italian Bersaglieri on their Vespas for a score draw:

And a final shot (the second game of the day always get less journalistic coverage, I find) of the 8th Army taking on Eric's DAK with somewhat foolhardy bravery in the face of better dice and better tactics - the Brits came a very poor second here:

Simon
It was a good day for gaming.
It was good to see all players knowing the rules pretty well.
The tables and companies looked really nice too.
All good.
I think PBI is not a game for first time wargamers, but is great for players who can use tactics and have a plan.
martin :)
I may have come last but I did capture an enemy ambulance. Did anyone else manage to disrupt the enemy medical services in the same way?
John
