I'm considering attending but too many variables at the moment to commit. Also not a good time of the year for travel.

Best wishes,

Family bereavements, weddings or bar mitzvahs allowing, I'll be there.

As Im currently recovering in hospital from a ruptured appendix which I had removed this morning, I'm hoping my own medical crisis for the year is over with.

I shall certainly bring a game.

Something like Conquerors and Kings, Bloody Barons or Mexico. Plus I'll bring as many gamettes as I can carry.

As there are two AK games I will modify my contribution (early days of course).

1. TCR
2. Siege napoleonic thing.

I would like to join in with CK and BB. I can bring either or both if others do not.

Ouch Sean! I sympathise with you having suffered the same in 2018. The surgeon said it was the third worst one he'd done. I didn't like to ask what happened to the other three!!!!!! At least there will not be a recurrence.

Thanks both. Apparently the registrar got a bit scared when he saw mine and had to bring in the consultant  ;D

I saw him this morning and had a lovely chat about the Western Front during the First World War and how to cook a nice pork loin. Damn nice chap!

Martin,

I shall bring all of Bloody Barons with my nice new S and A Scenic scenery.

Well AK, TCR, and PBI ? Whatever is next of the re-make list ? (PiTS ?) A civil war game or two ? ECW,ACW or SCW. Sean mentioned Westerns ? Also some Ancient games as well as Pirates ?
I think that's most covered ? That's Friday night. What we going to do on Saturday? LoL

I'm not due to work that weekend so can you put me down for a day visitor with lunch Saturday and Sunday. I could put on my Battle of Brunanburh 937 scenario using Hail Caesar - Saxons, Scots, Strathclyde Welsh, Vikings everyone was there.

Happy to put on an AWI game as well. I can put them on whenever is convenient as long as there is a session gap between them preventing me mixing between the rules - where is the section on British Grenadiers using double handed axes, what do I need to throw to put those spearmen into skirmish formation etc. Maybe one on the Saturday the other either Friday night or Sunday morning?

1. TCR
2. Siege napoleonic thing?

I fancy playing some BB and CK too. In fact any RFCM game.  The good thing about the RFCM games is that all attendees will have had a part in the play testing and design of them.

Additionally.
The WWW will motivate me to paint up some more troops for one of the games at least.
There is always time for WWW players to paint up a  couple of new generals. I did a new CC for my British this week. The other two British CC have gone missing in one of my boxes I expect.

I'm with you Sean. Isn't that the point of the weekend. I excuse "target Ahead" as that is honorary RFCM.
John
Title: Re: Weymouth War Weekend 2025
Post by: martin goddard on May 01, 2025, 07:28:50 AM
The main aim of the weekend is to celebrate/enjoy the RFCM games of which the whole group has taken part in play testing. This should mean that members will all know a bit about how these game play (even if just from the forum) and the story of their  development.

Some of the games have not been played by some players in years, which makes them enjoyable to get out once more. As play testers the group will all have at least one army specifically made for these games. It is good to get them out again. Otherwise some of these armies don't get enough air. This is the only annual event when you will certainly get a game with those armies if you want to.

Other games have their own events. Big Mike organised a fine set of events at Entoyment for his great  air game.

If we spread out over many systems then the weekend becomes a  nice games weekend.

However that would lose this dedicated  chance  to try and re-meet RFCM games, bring armies built for those games and chat about sets of rules common to the whole group.

Of course I do not own the event and my pushing of RFCM rules might be too much.
The event would still be successful as a general gaming event I am sure.
If that is the path it takes then fine by me.

Should there be a wargames event dedicated to just one rule writing group (all of us here) ?

martin :)

That's what the Weymouth Weekender is Martin...a chance to play as many RFCM games as possible.

There is always a good chance to play the latest set in playtest  but also to dig out older collections  or to play a game you've not played before.

Les very kindly put on the previous version of Pieces of Eight a few years a go as I'd not played it.

The set piece games are great too. Big Mike's Long Tan was a real highlight for me.

But also I've had some memorable games just sitting down with friends and enjoying the game and the company. A Western game where Mark, my partner walked away half way through the game as we were losing badly and you sat down to replace him amd finish the game. We still lost badly but had great fun!

Miles' Hammerin Iron collection, Chris bringing his AWI, Stewart with his Pegasus Bridge scenario, games of Regiment of Foote, Civil War Battles and Square Bashing.

All hold very fond memories for me. The odd 'non RFCM' choice is nice for people who want it, but as I've said before, this is my RFCM extravaganza as I don't get to play anywhere near as many games as most of the Weymouth posse.

John. I think we lost not because of our inattention, but solely because of Joe Biden.

I hope no one feels that there is hostility to them  creating games. That is not intended. Creating games is always a good idea.
However, the WWW is and has been a chance  to focus on RFCM games that we have all been involved in (to a bigger or smaller amount).

I think for after hours gaming it's fine. Like the gamettes. But for the main sessions I'll only be choosing RFCM.

Stewart puts all the hard effort into arrange the weekend for which I know we are all eternally grateful and I'd hate to see people upset or discouraged. But on the other hand there are 51 other weeks of the year to play something else 😂🤣😅

Hello Miles
I suggest that yor bring two full games to make the "carry" manageable.
Pairing up to put on a game is a good idea too.

I will bring a full CK if nobody else does.

If it makes people think about doing a game but not got everything then partnering up with someone to get it on the table is the most sensible as we all know each other.
Obviously we will talk about this more as we get nearer the time.
Sean put me down for a game of your Western.
Just to put another side to the WWW ? If someone has a game or game system we all might want go play then that maybe that could be included if voted for or shown interest in ?
If not as said before it is essentially a RFCM weekend?

Gentlemen
Reading the above posts and a couple of emails I have received
A bit of history

I started this games weekend because I like playing Peter Pig games.

We started in 2013, with 13 players, 8 bedrooms , 1 games room in a dark and cold hotel.

After 2 new owners we have 11 bedrooms, 2 games rooms, in a bright and warm hotel
And remember I have managed to the rooms at 1/2 price

Last year we had 17 players

I would like only Peter Pig games, but we have 5 sessions of 5 games to fill (25 games)

Big Mike has playtested a lot of the rules and some of us have play tested his air wars game so if Mike wants to bring that then he is allowed

I will try to make a special figure for the weekend.
Probably to coincide with either the Napoleonic (siege, hero) , PITS (gridded, a surveyor figure?) or TCR (published?, Tom Cruise? ).

I can pre select ships and data cards etc ready for the game.
Sat am Western with Sean
Sat PM  MoCB with Simon preferably or CK with Martin or Ak with Stewart
Sat night AK the Colours game or as it goes game ?
Sunday Afternoon CK with Martin
Maybe myself and John ? Simon ? Do you want to do SCW on Sunday morning? I ll put it in the slot for now ?

Do you have any PP game that you are happy to run Derek. I can lend you some scenery etc if that helps. The weekend is intended for those present to play the games they have chatted about on this forum, bought armies for and that they have play tested. ie they are involved in the process. I think the RFCM focus is a good idea. A variety weekend might not attract the same group of people. Players book in, expecting to see the games they have talked about.

Maybe Stewart might organise a  "variety" weekend and we could all play a variety of games which have nothing to do with PP or RFCM. Players could bring along games they have bought or are developing themselves. I am happy to bring along DBA and A triremes game. I don't, for the above reasons.

I enjoy designing games with the team here, so maybe understand your enthusiasm to design a new game. A worthy goal. A good first step is to recruit a couple of chaps local to yourself and get the basics all sorted. Your local club is pretty big and has a big variety of interests.

The WWW is three and a half months away.
That time soon goes when preparing troops and painting stuff.

In that time my ambitions are :-

1. Finish TCR
2. Have  a play test working version of gridded PITS.
3. Maybe the first parts of the Napoleonic thing?  Unless PITS needs all the time.
4. Another new mat for TCR.
5. A collectible figure for attendees at the weekend.
6. A gamette??

martin :)
