Title: Sci Fi rules EXORDIUM (Latin for start)
Post by: martin goddard on November 24, 2024, 10:55:09 AM
Seeing as some of you will give this a go at the WWW, I will chat along about progress.

Overall guides for a set of RFCM rules. In this case Sci fi .

A.There needs to be some new mechanisms .
1. To differentiate the rules
2. To make the rules onomatopoeic (seems plausible)
3. To give players some new think exercises.

B. Number of figures.
1. Affordable in figure terms
2. Enough to make the game multi action not single mob fight.
3. Enjoyable to paint with plenty of player options.

C. Background
1.Plausible. Not too detailed in case it provokes wasted talk.
2. Not WW2
3.Some unusualities

D. Option to use standard RFCM templates, matériel  and scenics.
1. Special scenery pieces as part of the game for those who make the extra effort.
2. Scenery placement system to give a "both player" battlefield.
3. Predictable scenery to allow players to be organised and have the right bits without needing a box of spares.
4. D6

E . Rules ingredients.
Many of these are peculiar to RFCM .
1. Grids
2. 5x3
3. Pre game
4. Elaborate victory conditions
5. Simple shoot mechanisms.
6. Imposed limits on army composition.
7. Battle sheet
8. Play sheet.

If its alien invasion it has to be set in the US, preferably California as no self respecting alien would dream of landing anywhere else.

What is in the first draft.
The word disruptors will  become more  interesting. For now they are merely informative**.

Old and new.
 Shooting = SOL based
Moving =SOL based
Force maker = 100 points.
Troop types = Best. Middle and worst (BMW) whilst awaiting better descriptors.
Best 5 figures =100 points
Middle  20 figures = 100 points
Worst 60 figures =100 points

This is if just that type were bought. Most forces will be a mixture.
7 forces available. I wil stick to just 1 or 2 pre pointed for the weekend, as I have to find some figures.

Extra weapons = **big bangers, mines and blockers.

Game idea= destroy 5 objectives. Values known to defender only.

Countdown = two moving stars around table periphery. When they meet= game end.

Scenery only 3 types**. bad 2-7, very bad 1-2 and unusual 0-1. Players choose.

Uses 5x3 table into 6" squares.

Win = Objectives + kills + moral points.

Recovery. Lates/Reinforcements.

Morale Stand down.

I am excited about this.
I think the early changes will be major, but mostly based on value changes  rather than changing mechanisms.

Thanks for the support.

Thanks for sharing your thinking, Martin.

Is SOL for BMWs in TCR like LOS in OLR?

Or something else entirely?

Simon

[OLR = "Other, Lesser Rules"]

SOL is the gunfight gamette from the MILL.
BMW was just co incidence but the naming will probably change soon.
I will get the rules to you tomorrow and see what you think.
