Four of us had a practice game of BAW.
For those who are at the Saturday Entoyment day, here are some thoughts.
1.Support units (within 6") really help with fights.
2.Put more messenger D6 on the messenger that can get to the general and give the extra points.
3.Make sure the shoot centre line overlaps the target.
4.Opportunity shooting is still at full effect.
5. The smaller 2 Clan game. Only 40 battle points. Only 2 messengers.Only 2 generals (plus C in C).
6. Spear effect. Try to make sure all spears in the front rank. Formation change only costs 1AP.
7. In the fights there can be draws.
8.Victory points include units within close distance to opponent base edge, outnumbering by 10+ in each sector.
9. Shooting can cause disorder
10. After your move do check general is within 3" and other units within 6" etc.
This needs a grid. 16 years old now.

I did wonder whether a re-write similar to Bloody Barons was a possibility. It seems like a fairly straightforward transition.
I'd like to see the battle formations retained somehow but I don't think this would be an issue. I'm painting Samurai armies now with mainly 8 bases of figures. 4 bases like Bloody Barons is enough I think.
It is certainly a rule set I would like to get into, but there are 3 other projects in the pipe before it.
The BB system would be the easiest to mould over.
Few troop types. Integral shooters. cavalry minimal.
Would still need messengers, challenges and Formation set ups?
martin :)
Yes I think cavalry would need to be different to the Bloody Barons version. I think they were more integral to battles than the Wars of the Roses.
