Society of Ancients Battle Day
Sunday 30 March 2025
Maldon (991 AD)
Next year's annual Society of Ancients Battle Day will take place at Hermitage Village Hall in Berkshire (postcode RG18 9WL), on Sunday 30th March 2025. We will be re-fighting the famous clash between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons at The Battle of Maldon in 991 AD.
The day will run from 9am (with the hall available to set up from 8am) to 5pm and will consist of an opening presentation followed by a full day of wargames to refight the battle itself. A wide variety of rules sets, figure scales and even, perhaps, widely divergent interpretations of the historical sources will be on display. Games are laid on by attendees, and participants can either volunteer to run a game, or turn up and find a free space to play. The event is open to both members and non-members, and will cost £12 per person.
For further details, please email the Battleday Coordinator: battleday@soa.org.uk or soabattleday@gmail.com ".
If players can pay thevir £12 and report back here so we can organise cars, people, scenery and figures?
I propose we put on 1 game of Longships and 1 game of CK.
Each game can easily be played twice in the day?
Maybe even swap games.
Your thoughts?
martin :)
I have CK Vikings.
John
Thanks Martin for the information
Stewart
Great, Martin.
So shall I pay up and tell them that Stewart and I are putting on a game using Longships?
You can do the same for C&K, just to avoid any accusations that Peter Pig is being greedy and taking two tables?
Simon
That sounds good Simon. Good organisation. I will await the reply to the e mail i sent and we go from there?
martin :)
I have checked the date
Has anyone else spotted that it's Mother's Day?
May have a few upset mothers if men folk go of to fight

:o ::) :-\ :'(
That is a shame.
martin :)
Mothers Day may be an issue for me :o
Games days are important...but they're pipped at the line by our mums.
Maybe the SOA will review the date?
Maybe they got it wrong in the first place (didn't that happen a few years back)?
Maybe it should have been a Saturday after all...?
Simon
I like the look of that too.
Miles
It is the Sunday.
I am happy to go wargaming on mother's day.
The Farnborough "Valhalla" show was always on father's day. I went.
martin :)
Sounds fair enough, Martin :)
I'll discuss at home and see if I can get a day pass. It sounds like a good family day out, doesn't it? ;D
I've been to that venue a few times before - there are even swings and things to play on ;)
Simon
It is an unfortunate clash but there are lots of things in the calendar. Birthdays, weddings, holidays, family meets, anniversaries, public holidays. The Year does get filled up. There will be clashes.
