We are having a nice few hot days (summer?).
marvellous.
Colours is now six weeks away.
That is quite soon.
Who on the group is coming along to the Colours 2024 show?
What are you looking for and at?
martin :)
Ben and I are planning to be there, its Ben's birthday so I am sure he will be picking up some presents. I will be looking at Sarissa Precision and maybe a Peter Pig order!
D&B
I expect to be there helping Dave Lanchester as usual. Not looking for anything in particular.
John
I think I'll probably attend.
Nothing particular at this point - perhaps some paints, and maybe any shiny new bits of scenery that tickle my fancy?
Simon
I enjoy my fancy being tickled at shows. But I don't go to nearly half as many as I used to. I doubt I'll be making the 3 hour trip this year but for those who do, enjoy it and take plenty of pictures!
Won't be there this year as on holiday in Flanders then and attending Crisis. Last went to Colours 2018. One of my favourite shows, the others being Warfare and Phalanx.
Maybe the Covid problem has forced some shows to stop.
Locally Fisticuffs has gone(30 years) but Beachhead (Bournemouth) has grown.
I think SELWG has stopped, for the moment at least.
Reading Warfare has moved.
Smaller shows that have long gone from the South are Chippenham, Poole SDMS, STAB(Southbourne), Yeovil, Marston Magna, Redoubt, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bulford, Aldershot et al.
martin :)
It seems a shame. They were an absolute must in the days before the internet, especially when most catalogues contained no illustrations of the figures. I remember that Redoubt Enterprises had some lovely sketches of their products in their hardcopy catalogue, probably 35 to 40 years ago now. However the purpose of shows these days seems to be more of a get together for wargamers and an opportunity to compare the figures with the internet photos, maybe check out the gameplay of a set of rules you are interested in and also to buy something you happen to chance upon. Consequently no real need today for lots of small shows, but important that shows are spread across the country.
Well after a desperate talk with Matt the other day, Monte Cassino is back on ?
For various reason good and bad, I ve had a bad year of lack of interest and money? Maybe both are connected?
But anyway, we put my ideas with what can be done, then Matt's stack of Polystyrene and his wonderful cutting machine and some effort, we have made the ideas into something that has become reality !
It now needs to be stuck together, shaped, painted and flocked.
Then the town table needs sorting out ?

You are working on a major task there Miles.
It would daunt anyone I think.
Press on and you will get it sorted I am sure.
Four weeks. Is that enough.
Do you want a hand?
martin :)
The only thing I am lacking is some ruined buildings for the town boards. So if anyone local(ish)?has some ruined buildings that they can lend out please to the cause I would be grateful?

Although I haven't attended Colours since 2018, owing to a variety of reasons, I am assuming it is still held at Newbury race course as its location is not mentioned at all. Am I correct?
Yup. Same place, and still just £5 to get in:

Simon
£5 really is cheap.
martin :)
It's £20 to get back out again though ;D
