Title: Historicon 2025 a long shot
Post by: martin goddard on July 23, 2024, 01:52:17 PM
Historicon 2025

16-20th July 2025
This is a year away.
I would like to go over with a PP game and a gang of friends.

It is a long way off and nothing need be agreed yet. Health, wealth and time might make some big changes for all of us before then?

My thoughts were a 10 day trip. Probably leaving from Heathrow and arriving in Washington. Do the show in Lancaster for Thursday, Friday, Saturday (Sunday is very quiet).
Stay out of  Lancaster to save money. Drive into the show each day early until late.

The flight will probably be a £1000. 10 days accommodation probably another £1000 then another £1000 on food and car. maybe £3500 all told??

Hire one or two very large SUVs.
Share the driving.
Do battle fields (ACW ) and war sites.
Shops.
Eat drink and be merry?

If the above gets you thinking, then let me know and we can chat over the next 6 months.

I have done this trip in this manner 4x before. I enjoyed it a lot.
Most fun if you have not been to the US much. Then you can enjoy every aspect of just being there.

martin :)

This does interest me...but it's difficult to confirm my availability just yet.

Not for me thanks Martin. I'm more of a 5 day trip, self guided round the Normandy battlefields and museums.

I wish I could afford to go.
Unless they come back with a decent wage offer later this year?

Not really for me. Apart from the cost of such a venture I have felt very little interest in the USA since the dying days of the Clinton Administration.

Thanks for the replies.
I will probably go and take a "light" game.
The pirate land raid might be a prime candidate?

Currently the plan is for me to be there (2025) as part of the MEG/REG crew. Last time we did this we spent 2 days in Washington,  got an AirB&B in Lancaster for the show, and then a few days in Pennsylvania (Gettysburg, Antietam and down to Harbour's Ferry ect)

That is an excellent balance of activity Simon.
Hope to see you there in 2025.
I am watching the exchange rate with interest.
I might do a battlefield.
