Title: 10th August BATTLE DAY VIETNAM
Post by: martin goddard on July 15, 2024, 08:28:41 AM
This is nice and early.
It will help those who need a lift from their dad or want to move their paper round for the day.

10th August is VIETNAM at Entoyment.
I have assumed that those with tables are able to attend?

1.Richard
2.Stewart
3.Big Mike
4.Derek
5.martin
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12.

If we can get 10 or more players that would be great.
Vietnam is  a nice easy game . Thus. 3 games might be played in a day?
I suggest normal games using NVA, VC , US and ARVN. Not Montagnards and firebase assaults.

Do copy and re-post the above list here or just say here if you are onboard and I can do the change for you.

1.Richard + TABLE
2.Stewart + TABLE
3.Big Mike +TABLE
4.Derek + TABLE
5.martin + TABLE
6.Ben - Southhampton
7.Ben - Weymouth
8.Sean - tentative yes.

I say tentative as I need to check I'm not needed elsewhere, but it is in the family calendar so fair warning has been given 🙂

I'd prefer not to bring a set up if possible...but can if it is required.

I have lots of figures though, and might use my Australians.

Thank you Stewart
If we have 8 players it gives us a spare table.
If we have 10 or more players that would fit nicely

This gives us 7 players definite and two possibles.

I have e mailed Jim and Eric. I expect one or both will play.

This allows us to use 4 tables with a spare if the tentatives join in (although a spare table is still useful for our junk).

It will cost players £8 for the day.

I think that we have all played enough to have 1 on 1 games? Plays can have 2 v1 or 2v2 for first game if they wish.
I will print out play sheets and battle sheets.
There will be plenty of spare armies but the games must be NVA/VC  versus white star (ARVN,US, Australian).
We could (?) have a firebase or Montagnards game if folk wanted it
I will put this event on TMP too.

I have enough Montagnards if required and I can attend. I've an 89.4% chance of coming at the moment.

Just to add to the confusion, I may well attend. I know nothing about the game, have no troops etc, so I expect to win and win handsomely.

John, you are most welcome to attend. There are plenty of spare armies.
I would claim they are a very good set of rules.
We (martin, Stewart, ??)  took it to Historicon where the two teenagers found it simple, but the older man (Joe?) said it was all too complex and he was going back to Napoleonics.  Well, I enjoy them a lot.

Shall I put you in the "maybe" group? or the "I will be there" group. The maybe group can always join in on an existing table. Most folk are happy to have joiners in.

Guys,
Just remembered there is thing thing called the RFCM Forum.
Looking forward to the Vietnam Day and will bring a tables as promised.
Just binge watched 'Platoon' and 'Apocalypse Now'. 'Danger Close' is next. Surely these are the best 3 'Nam films? Maybe add 'Full Metal Jacket'.

Welcome back to the fold, Michael  :)

I would agree on these being the top 3 Vietnam films that I've seen.

Maybe add in The Odd Angry Shot for your Aussies?

I agree with your thoughts Mike.

I might add Full Metal Jacket and Hamburger Hill.

First 10 minutes of "Dead presidents".

Mike! We've missed you!

Interesting discussion on the best Vietnam films.

Danger Close is my favourite. This is because of the accompanying documentary from the same director and of course your game at the WWW. It inspired me to get my own Australian figures 😁

Apocalypse Now is my second favorite followed by Platoon.

Full Metal Jacket is great too as is Hamburger Hill. Not sure about John Wayne's Green Berets though 😂

Unfortunately I'm having to bow out. Ava, who has signed for Stoke City this season, makes her debut now on Saturday. It's a last minute pre season game but I can't miss her first time in Stoke City colours 😊

There's plenty of other game days but only once your daughter makes her debut for Stoke!

Enjoy and I expect plenty of reportage on the day!

Sorry you have to miss this one Sean, but well done Ava!

Don't forget to use the phrases "Play it loud?", "Don't get out of the boat ", "With extreme prejudice"  and "Xin Chao"

or other  Robin Williams phrases that we have all enjoyed.

At 07.44 hours I had a message to say Ava's  game was cancelled due to the opposition not having enough players.

Unfortunately, even if I left now, I doubt I'd be with you to start the afternoons game.
