For a few years I've wanted to paint an army especially for the event. I need to make it so for next year! Something I wouldn't ordinarily look at like Bulgarians Austrians or Italians I think.
I've no imagination, so will be fielding British Mid-War Western Front 1915-17.
Simon
I'll be using Italians. The army is already completed. They are Peter Pig early war German jaegers and French with suitable paint jobs and the addition of head swaps to create the Bersaglieri. They look the business to my uneducated eyes.
Of course, 1915 is the year of Gallipol and Loos. I have figures for Loos but not Gallipoli so I think that may be my next Square Bashing adventure!
I wonder if Martin has the time to do some Anzacs ;D
Has Dave got an Anzac army?
martin :)
I do.
D&B
But is it a Peter Pig Anzac army? :) ;)
Mostly, Martin did some Anzacs as a special for me several years ago.
D&B
Well now I'm very jealous ;D
The only real options in 15mm are QRF or MiniFigs. Neither of which as you'll notice are Peter Pig. The sculpts look pretty old and lacking in poses. I think Lancashire Games do them but they're described as 18mm. Eureka are also making some but they're very expensive.
I have quite a big Eureka light horse army which I brought cheaply when fighting 15's sold off their stock, they go quite well with the PP ones. I have also added quite a number of PP head swopped figures to the ones Martin did for me. They are all hidden away in the garage loft, must get them out some time soon!!
D&B
Just a comment on Lancashire... they are indeed whoppers. I did have some .. but they are really big
Perhaps Martin could be persuaded to dig out the old Anzac moulds if he still has them?
John
I wouldn't like to ask...I'm too shy.
Square Bashing 1915 - URGENT!
This year Battlefield Hobbies are heavily booked. Nothing available in June or most of July. At the roughly same time of year we have only two options:
Sat 31 May 2025 or Sunday 6 July 2025.
We only have a provisional tag on these dates so please give me some feedback here on availability & preferences ASAP
Thanks
Ray
Confirming that the Square Bashing Day 1915 is now booked at Battlefield Hobbies for Sat 31 May 2025
Many thanks for prompt responses to me via email.
Ray
Many thanks for organising this so quickly, Ray!
Simon
It will be good, just finished my AK 47 Arabs in time. Now to start on my BEF British force Early War with Caps.
Thanks for organising this I will be there.
I will buy my ticket at the end of this month.
Any suggestions on how I should have my British organised please ? Which is the better list to use ?
I am still very much learning this set of rules ?
Miles
I'm sad to say that this is the same day as my god daughters 21st birthday party which inconveniently is a day time affair.
That's OK Sean.
I'm sure she'd be most welcome to join in. Someone can probably lend her an army too?
Simon
Got my Ticket now. Also had a couple of reminder games. Won one lost one.
Nice to see I ve got a seemingly balanced force ?
Just got to paint 3 more Battalions and finish off the basing.
Miles
Well done Miles 👍
Thanks to everyone who contributed to a very pleasant and friendly day's gaming.
Particularly to the BAD gamers who kindly loaned their scenery, and to Ray for organising us all.
Simon
Some photos from my first game, playing Chris P - my British against his Germans.

Despite things looking very good after the first few turns, I lost horribly. That's the beauty of Square Bashing!
Simon
Game two saw a British incursion into China. The Brits were defending and failed to get 5 of their units on table.
However, a stiff upper lip somehow prevailed, allowing them to cling onto enough Objectives to win.

They both look like very good games. I am assuming the first game was using a lot of barrage markers. What sort of figures did you use for the Chinese? Or were they Germans in Tsingtao?
Bombardments of various kinds were indeed a feature of both my games!
I managed to gas myself (the same poor square, twice), but the lingering gas clouds prevented a crucial Chinese flanking manoeuvre that could have won them the battle.
I believe that some of the Chinese figures started life as Serbians, while others were Renaissance figures.
Simon
I was quite pleased with the barrage markers, made on a whim on Thursday. They're not quite finished, but will be shortly and should feature in my future games.
Simon
Great photos Simon. Thanks for sharing. An article for the Mill for the barrage markers?

Funnily enough, yes ;D
Simon
I thought the day was very good indeed.
Thank you to Ray for organising the divisions.
A very good cadre of players. All keen and up for a good game.
I enjoyed Dene's firing squad and mariachi band (pictures needed).
The Gallipoli table looked very good.
Maybe we can get players to provide tables of scenery so that the load is spread and we can enjoy what players have? I expect that most players at the event have some excellent scenery set ups hey are keen to share.
Also a thank you to Battlefield hobbies for great hosting.
martin :)
Simon C , would you like to hold the Sq Bashing day at Entoyment in Poole?
May get more of the southern group to join you Midlanders.
Stewart
Yes we have quite a few players that would join in ? But don't want to make the Journey!
We could have at least 8 if it was held at Entoyment ? That added to 6-7-8 from the Midlands?
Miles
The issue might be getting the midlanders to travel south.
Every other game day takes place at Entoyment, but this is the only northern one at the moment. Yes, you'll get more of the Weymouth gang but likely fewer northerners, so you'd end up with the same number of players.
I love my trips south when I can make them and think Entoyment is the best venue I've visited. But having an event in the Midlands helps those north of the Midlands to participate. John of York is one who I know travels down to Daventry.
We could always have a second Square Bashing day at Entoyment! ;D
Sean,
Exactly, I can manage Daventry but Poole is too far for me.
Best wishes,
Martin from North East Lincolnshire.

I think this was a fitting trophy as it was an unfinished project from a member who passed away.
