Title: Assault guard v regular army (part 1)
Post by: martin goddard on May 08, 2017, 08:55:29 AM
After the "chase". Won by assault guardcompany. Forcing the army company to be the attacker and the assault guard to be the defender.
14 pieces of scenery.
3 dead ground
2 woods
5 buildings
4 rough hills

After various shuffling the buildings were across the centre of the table. The attacker( army) edge was populated by rough hills.  The woods formed a central table screen.
The objectives were evenly spread along the table centre.

Assault guards started the game with 2 platoons on. the army started the game with 2 platoons and some light tanks.
Assets. The army had HE, delay and shock assault.   The assault guard had air, HE and hasty defences.
In a surprise move the assault guard started the game by spilling a cup oft tea !

That's not a tactic I've read of in Sun Tzu!

The assault guard used HE to hammer down the army. This caused the army to get stuck on the start line ridge.
Turn 2 the army moved into the assault guard left flank objective area. Lots of bloodshed.
On the right flank of the army company, they moved into the woodland.
Then all hell broke loose, with assaults all over the place. The army right objective assault was repulsed by the assault guard. Very unlucky, Fred rolled 12 dice and got no sixes.
Conversely in the army left hand objective the defending assault guard rolled 2 ones to save and were thus wiped out on the objective.  Then the army just walked in!
Close range firefights reduced platoons on each side to dangerous morale levels. Both sides failed morale rolls and removed base. This resulted in two platoons being reduced so low that they disintegrated.
All the assault guards had left was a battered platoon, a pair or trucks and a pair of field gins. These could do nothing to hold the ground and the army swept in to take the town.
Result was a  bloody massacre with both sides being bashed. Although the victory points were both  low, the assault guards achieved almost nothing, so lost badly.

The crucial fights over the objectives made the game exciting and close fought. Great game.
