Title: PBI entoyment Sunday 28th April
Post by: martin goddard on April 08, 2024, 06:48:03 PM
Hello allI have booked two tables at Entoynet for the whole day on Sunday 28th.

So far I think (?)  we are

1. John
2. Derek
3. martin
4.

I would like to theme it
Here are some suggestions
1. "No tanks" Guns, AC all fine.
2. "Desert"  Italians, Brits, DAK
3. "Snow"  1944 Europe
4. "1940 Europe"
5. "Sicily"
6.  "Jungle" Japanese, 14th army, Australian. Dutch etc..
7.  "Normandy"
8. "other"

It's in my diary. I think I can do any of those themes.
1. Probably Germans, Paras, FSJ or Partisans
2. Italians, DAK, Desert Rats or Americans
3. Germans (I have Finns but they are earlier)
4. Germans or FSJ (My BEF are now too small)
5. Germans, FSJ, Italians, Commonwealth or USA.
6. Japanese or 14th Army.
7. British, American or German.
8. Algerian, Klingon, Empire.

How about number 6.
I can lend any player an army too.
John you have two armies and I have two armies.
That should help.

Anyone else?

Fine by me, but I don't have a jungle set up. I can do the cloth and templates, but not jungle greenery. I can fudge some buildings though. Will it be tanks or no tanks? Will there be snow?

I like Johns idea of doing it in Klingon. Anyone have a spare army??

I will bring enough scenery for the two tables if you can bring a cloth and templates for one of the tables John. Roads too if you have them John?

I ve got British 8th Army. Desert/Italy/Burma
NW British BEF and 1944/45
Both with a good selection of vehicles for both.
So if you want to borrow one Derek?
What table types are we going for ?

Normal scenery rules Miles.
If the tables use jungle scenery it will look nice.
Are you using 14th army or desert army Miles?

I have roads Martin. So cloth, templates and roads. OK.
For the Far east I have Japanese and 14th Army. I will bring and point up both, with options where possible. So if you want Derek we can use one in the morning then swap for the afternoon. Or you can see what Miles has.

Japanese
The Japanese have the 3AP assault which is useful.
They have poor armour though. My army has a swarm of tankettes gun 5 armour 4. A group of 4 might help in foot assaults when carried in.
I would field 3 foot platoons, MMG platoon and a group of 4 tankettes.
The little 70mm guns have a factor of 6, which might be enough against a Sherman.

The 14th Army
I would field 4 foot platoons. They have PIATs  which will kill any tank.
Then I would add a pair of Shermans. They can roam the table with no fear of being killed except by off table  HE. This makes them ideal for blocking partial/open ground.
They might trade in the Shermans for a trio of ACs.

Scenery
Both sides would benefit from 3 wood/jungle templates.
Any open space will be murderous for advancing foot platoons.
Maybe "tricolour" the table to prevent enfilading fire.

My 8th army double up as Burma forces "early"
Obviously depends on what the opponents force is going to be ?

I can lend you a force.

I am sure we can do snow next if players wish Miles.
I think there are plenty of cloths and snow scenery in the group.

I think it is John, Derek, Miles and martin at the moment.

A good question Miles.
I have booked 2, as we presently have 5 players.
I am not sure how busy Sundays are at Entoyment?
If an extra player joins us I expect we can get a third table easily.

Do you want me to point up a Vet British Army ? As well as an Average?
With and without tanks? Lees/Grants ?

Either is fine Miles.
Jungle is the only restriction.
This will mean Japanese, Dutch, British, US only.

I am happy for you to field the British as raw if you wish Miles.

My British and Japanese are vet or average. I may be able to do Japanese raw if I do a bit of tweaking (not twerking!).

I would try British Raw, if it helps with the Raw v Vet thread ?
At the end of the day it's about testing and learning the rules before they are published now ?

All players should field whatever is going to give them an enjoyable day chaps. Veteran, average or raw. I want to avoid any post game "it was stacked against me, poor me" talk.
That does not help progress the rules.

The jungle day will be nice for the eyes too.

Could always bring my MOCB stuff along. That's pretty "JUNGLY" (is that a word and if not why not!)

To save me searching for the answer (at work!) How many partials are needed?

I can bring my South East Asia set up. Like Derek's, it will look more like Vietnam, but if you squint it will look like Okinawa.
Title: Re: PBI entoyment Sunday 28th April
Post by: martin goddard on April 25, 2024, 11:21:54 AM
Here is a thought.

1.John and Derek provide a table between them.
2. Sean brings a complete set up.
3. I suspect Miles will provide a set up?
4. martin will provide a full set up.

This can be easily changed if anyone wishes it.

For each table please bring just 16 assorted templates.
This gives enough for players to choose from, without asking folk to bring massive scenery stacks (for all options, 36 templates are needed per table. Far too many.).

martin will also bring spare bits, cloths to make up any shortage of palm trees  and buildings.

20 partials per table.

I tried to find a quiet day at Entoyment but on the Sunday there are still 2 competitions going on.
We have two atbles booked.
I expect ? the competitions to not use all the other tables and thus we can have 1 or 2 more tables.

I can bring a table, if I can burrow some bamboo and jungle type undergrowth. To go onto my templates. I ve got Palm trees and African trees. As I ve yet to put my bamboo and leafy jungle discs for both PBI and MoCB also AK47.
I would for now have to put Colonial"esk" buildings as I ve yet to do them .
The jungle is the last area I ve yet to properly provide for. I was going to do that soon, I got a brass Buddha! Lol

So what about this for a list of British Raw-Ave and Vet.
Raw  Company
4 x platoons 64 x 4 = 256
1 x MMG(3) 48
3 x Ave tanks 30-35 points 90 - 105
6 platoon.
Up to 409

Ave Platoon
3 x platoons 87 x 3 = 261
1 x MMG(2) 51
3 x tanks 30-35 points
5 platoon.
402

Vet platoon.
3 x platoons 104 x 3 = 312
1 x MMG(2) 64
2 x guns (probably ave) 28-36
5 platoons
404-412

Obviously some adjustments to get to the 400.
But I thought I d put my main thoughts out there.
From Raw to Vet then I can field a force that you want to test out ?
Miles
