I thought you might like that :)
Mexican Revolution armies would also be contenders, presumably.

I can use my Serbians.

Yes , I'm sure there would be. It's a very friendly low key event . Just a chance to play different people
Thanks
Simon
Ok thanks , I'll try and knock up a 15mm army for the event but just in case 👍🏻 cheers Alex
>but normally game in 10mm
Well I reckon you could get away with using your 10mils all you have to do is study this Father Ted clip and then explain the effect of perspective to your opponent....easy. 'Your troops are big, but mine are further away'.

Mr Helpful
Well I am in. But might need to borrow an Army as my hopes of getting a 1914 army together in time this year went out of the window. Re doing Beachhead, Colours and Stewart's vehicles. Also trying to finish off SCW.
So if Martin can lend me a EW British or German army ? Please.
Hopefully I can get a British Army sorted for 1915 by next year ?
I will buy my ticket at the end of March.
Miles
Well, I shall be with you in spirit in the Netherlands running my own solo 1914 Brits v Germans game on that day. Time I painted up some more 3D figures. By the way, if that heading picture makes it onto a T-shirt I'd love one.
For avoidance of doubt here are the permitted lists

I've signed up.
However, I'm only 50% likely to come. My daughter has an event that weekend and we won't know until much nearer the time whether it's Saturday or Sunday.
If I don't make it, you can all fight over my sandwiches and bag of crisps :D
Simon
I'm interested but won't know until end of April if I will be free.
Stewart
Can a different army be used for each session?
Stewart
I have signed up. Thank you for the event.
I shall use my Serbian army or Mexican army.
martin :)
Assuming I make it, I will be using French (whatever I manage to paint by then, supplemented by a kind figure loan by Martin).
Simon
Startedpainting another unit today, British Guards, but TBH I might struggle to get enough Germans completed. However, I will put on a miniature sized game if I don't get enough stuff completed by late June. Trying for one painting session perday minimum.
Think I am in for this but its a fair way away right now.
Can always use my Italians. After all its just a short trip in small boats to the Balkans.
Derek
Well, my brother has come to the rescue. He is currently having a big sort out after some building work, and has sent me some excess painted Germans and British so I should be able to put on a regular sized solo game in the dutch annexe on 29th of June.
Simon - I am sadly not going to make it after all - my daughter's event has ended up being on the Saturday instead of the Sunday.
I've already paid up - Miles is going to be masquerading as me, so those sandwiches won't go to waste.

Got the shirt and, thanks to my brother, a complete British 1914 army that simply requires basing. It may look a bit odd because he bought the figures ready painted on ebay and they are in a darker khaki than I would have painted them. I also think they are Minifigs rather than Peter Pig, but, using what I already have, I have only needed 3 infantry units and two artillery pieces. The crew are ok but the guns are a bit on the tiny side. However, I will have to concentrate on painting the dastardly Hun to get things ready for June 29th. I'll submit a full report at the end of that day so you can see which army performed best. As a pursuing army the Germans will have cavalry and jaegers as well as a bunch of conscripts and some artillery. Looking forward to this.
This is a great initiative, Andy - running the same event in two countries!
Simon
Don't forget to allow for the 1 hour time difference Andy. We are starting at 9am.
Simon can add it to the days results?
martin :)
It will suit my retired lifestyle to start at 10am. Really looking forward to it. Will probably use 10mm buildings to reduce footprint.
Just chasing up on entries for this. Currently at 4 so not really viable right now
Thanks
That is strange Simon.
You have Miles and martin I assume?
martin :)
And now Sean. I've just bought ticket.
Fairly sure Simon P will be there if he can! What about the usual Burton crew?
I'll start a media campaign to drum up support. As you know, wargamers are great procrastinators! Why do today what you can do tomorrow 😂

Miles is actually me as far as the shop knows! I paid up but then found out I'm needed on family taxi duties instead.
Simon
Oh well, back to painting my 28mm early Saxons to give the Romano-Britons a bad time.

Current entrants so far we have an possible 2 more, so looking OK now
Good news!
Ok back to basing Germans. I think basing is probably what I will now concentrate on, so there will be some pretty basic units in my armies, but will still give a good game. I think the ruined chateau will actually be a Liddle Lane factory.
Currently at an odd 11 , so a call out for an extra !
I am happy being in a pair Simon
martin :)
I'm assuming Simon G isn't you, Simon. Maybe you could throw your hat into the ring ;)
Quote from: Sean Clark on May 21, 2024, 05:41:38 PMI'm assuming Simon G isn't you, Simon. Maybe you could throw your hat into the ring ;)
That is the backup plan
When do we need to commit to an army Simon? Or have we done so already? ;D
I'll commit to using 1914 French. I've just ordered 4 units of Senegalese troops to bolster the army. It'll make me feel better having some newly painted troops in the army and I've been meaning to get some for a long time.
As I have already mentioned I need to paint up 5 pieces of 1914 German artillery. There is a crew figure carrying what looks like a tray of sandwiches in such a way that all the sandwiches will doubtless fall on the floor. What is he carrying and what colour should it be painted? I wanted to post a photo, but once again Flikr has changed all its icons and I can't work out how to copy a photo for posting. Neither can I drop a photo as I can't get further forward than 2021 with my saved photos. I am beginning to think that computers hhave been designed to kill off old people through excessive stress, so I shall be making fewer visits to websites in future. I really don't need this level of constant frustration.
Could it be a mat to put the shells and other bits and bobs on to avoid them getting muddy? I've seen a picture of something along those lines for a WW2 German gun crew.
Simon
I've not noticed that figure before as my early war Germans are pre the result. Interesting!
Hello Chaps
If you see it on 3D it is clearer.
It is a pair of shells in their straw/rope carrying case.
The case is heavy hence why it is made for pairs only.
The case is very light straw colour . The cases were usually disposed of once used/opened.

Here is a similar one.
martin :)
Very interesting, Martin, thank you!
Simon
Thanks for the info Martin. Vallejo German yellow with a brown wash should do the trick. I've never com across these things before. Must have another look in my WWI pictorial encyclopaedia to see if it is there.
That is good. I agree with your colour choice Andy. They were not camouflaged, as they were never in sight of the enemy. They will add a splash of colour to the figures?
martin :)
@martin goddard @Smiley Miley 66 can you check your email please as I'm trying to get an idea of who is bringing what armies
thanks
Simon
Hello Simon
Sorry if I missed that. I will find the e mail and reply.
I think Miles is early war Germans and I am Serbians.
Looking forward to it.
martin :)
Martin is lending me a German army.
Milesm1uk@gmail.com is my usual email address on here.

Is it too late to add myself back into the mix for this event, Simon? I have been released from my previous commitment - must be a Father's Day present!
If so, can I take Martin up on his earlier kind offer to lend me his Early War French?
Thanks,
Simon

Good news Colonel!
As Simon is coming, he of course is taking his kindly donated ticket to me back. So I am coming but I can't buy a ticket until the Friday before or even the Saturday morning on the day; due to the fact I am skint until I get paid on 28th.
So I will be there. With Early War Germans.
Miles
No problems with armies. I will go into the storage this week and find some.
martin :)

Since I messed things up for Miles, I'll get him a ticket in advance so we're all square with the store, and he and I can sort things out later.
Simon
Thanks all fine if you can just book the tickets . It's just about booking the lunches

Thank you Simon P for sorting it out.
Hopefully we will see Simon C on that Saturday? Don't be late ? Do you remember how to get there ? Lol

Wonderful Martin. I was about to place an order so this will come in very handy.

I've worked out an Army.
But I would be 5 points over if that is acceptable ? 625.
Miles
What do you think ? Germans 1914 I am still learning.
I ve put in the minimums etc was left with 8 points so put in a light A/C for 13 points putting me 5 points over !
Not too sure if that's allowed or not ?

Has everyone chosen what colour dice they are bringing tomorrow?
I'm playing French, so obviousley using blue piggie dice.
I think Simon is a few points under, Miles.
He can give those to you. I have 2 spare points too. You are welcome to them
martin :)
Many thanks to Simon C for organising today's annual event, which was as usual very enjoyable.
Also to Martin for the generous loan of his nice French army; my opponents Dene and Pete and to everyone else who turned up to play, chat and set the world to rights!
A June date worked very well for those of us travelling a little further, with good light there and back.
I look forward to the next one
Simon
If anyone is interested Derek, Alan, Martin and I are Square Bashing at Wessex Wargames Society on 3rd August. If anyone else is up for it let me or Martin know (on here if you like or by e-mail).
John
Yes please John I am very interested. Miles
Just to reiterate what Simon P says. Thank you Simon C and Battlefield Hobbies for putting on the Event. Also those that turned up and played.
Thank you Martin for taking me up as my car has a worn clutch which I ve got to get fixed.(ouch!)
That you Stewart for lending me a German Army.
Miles
A nice day out.
Lots of effort put in by lots of players.
Thanks to all.
I got home in daylight (9.30pm). This summer central day works well for me. I can get home safely, appreciated.
martin :)
Lovely day as usual!
Really enjoyed both of my games against Peter and Ray. Both of them went down to the wire.
Some very nice armies on display too.
Roll on next year!
Here's my first game, featuring some lovely Chinese buildings.
There weren't many of my defending French left (other than all those reinforcements that never managed to show up...) once Dene's Chinese had finished with them.

A couple of photos from my second game - again with Martin's French force - against Peter's cunning Germans.

I succeed in snatching a losing draw from the jaws of what looked like (although this could have been their general's mind games...) a crushing win at the end of the first couple of turns. But that's all part of the beauty of Square Bashing!
