Title: Vietnam battle day 16th March
Post by: martin goddard on January 24, 2024, 07:53:32 PM
Stewart has agreed to make the 16th March a battle day featuring VIETNAM.

I propose 2 or even 3 games in the day. It is quite a short game.
Players can swop between being VC, NVA or white star.
Just normal games of search and destroy.

No downed aircrew or firebase assaults? Unless  folk would rather do those too?
If we have 8 players or more as we did for Berlin players can play  1 on 1 games.

We would need to book 4 tables though ASAP.

Here is a list of players.
Please add or delete as appropriate as per usual.
I have not listed players as VC/NVA or white star as there are plenty of chances to  flip sides??

Players can just be one type if they wish.

1. Stewart (plus setup)
2. Richard
3. Southampton Ben
4. Miles
5. Simon (plus setup)
6. martin
7.
8.
9.
10.

thanks

martin :)

I have the additional stuff for the downed aircrew scenario (i.e. 4 aircrew figures!), which is easy to do as an interesting alternative to the standard VC and NVA games, if anyone wants to play that on the day.

A "background" suggestion.
All very loose, but it will  make the event more memorable(?)

August 1973
Operation Thunderbolt.
USMC and ARVN units carry out a  search and destroy  in Quang Ngai Province against the VC.

There may be an NVA regiment lurking in the vicinity too...?

Indeed yes Simon. Pretending to be local peasantry.
Although he Northerners really stuck out when compared by the southerners (apparently)  and were disliked by the southern Vietnamese peasantry too.

I think I read somewhere that the Northeners were generally taller? And of course they had uniforms. Probably better pay, chocolate and nylons too...

You could of course make use of my Tour of Duty campaign published in that august journal, The Mill!

I'm really sorry chaps, but I'm not going to make this Vietnam day after all.

We have an important family commitment that I've only just found out about  >:(

"Gutted" doesn't quite cover it  :-[

Update Saturday 16th March

1. Stewart (plus setup)
2. Richard
3. Southampton Ben
4. Miles
5. martin (plus setup)
6. big mike (plus setup)

I suggest that all games are VC   v whitestar. If players wnat to use NVA maybe do this on second game?

The games are quite short. Maybe a third game?

VC players should remember to keep disappearing. It drives the White Star player nuts  ;D

No worries Ben and Dave
There are plenty of spare armies.
