I am currently building two Roman armies that are frequently gamed, namely the Marian army of Julius Casar and the armies that invaded Britain in the First century AD. Neither of these currently appear in the Army Book, although the C2nd may do for the Roman invasion, but C3rd BC won't work for the Marian period.
Hello Andy
I can put in a Marian period Civil war army no worries.
Fortunately the differences from adjacent Roman armies are not that great because CK generalises troop types. e.g Close order infantry Republican are the same as close order infantry Marian, partially because Pilum is not a special weapon type in CK.
Even auxiliaries are similar whether Roman or tribal.
Makes it all very easy to buld and fight with armies.
Anyway. I will put in a civil wars/marian Roman army Andy.
Do you have any initial thoughts about that army compositon??
martin :)
Thanks Martin. I am unsure about the use of Moorish light cavalry by the Romans in Europe during this period. Would Germanic light cavalry be best for auxilliaries at this time?
I am not an expert but my thinking would be locals. These could be Spanish, Cimbrian or even gallic?
The figures would probably be helmet, shield, sword and javelins??
I will get the list done for your perusal Andy.
It seems more common for Marian to be a false label as the reforms were happening in stages anyway, not related to him?
martin :)
Done (?)
martin :)
Thanks Martin, very much appreciated. I have downloaded the new Army Book and the example army looks ideal. They will probably see action against Gauls, Spaniards and Parthians
