Of course Simon

Excellent - we do indeed. Glad we've got that clear :D

With a clean bill of health and soon, retirement it'll take wild horses to keep me away this year.
So £119 pounds all in for the hotel plus money for Saturday nights meal ?
Don't forget the Black Pudding for Breakfast as well please ? If not remind one of us to buy a load and bring it with them ?
Very good value for a weekend of gaming.
Very well done Stewart for organising this for us ! 👏
So early games list contenders ?

Very good point on the black pudding, Miles. My little lead generals certainly march on their stomachs!

This is great progress so early in the year, Stewart, with new faces and old in the line-up.
Shall I being my tent and see if we can sell extra pitches in the car park?
Simon
Is that Les Beilby Tipping?
I'll be bringing something I've not brought before.
When I know what that is, I'll let you know! Only 7 months to go 😂
I am happy to fit in and not duplicate games others are bringing.
I might bring
PBI or CK or Pirate ships
martin :)
Yes Sean
LBT will join us for the Saturday only
We have enough room for 5 games tables per session
Stewart
Hammerin Iron more than a full set up. PBI obviously I can bring whatever table in most of "EU" and Mediterranean. Should even have my version of Monte Cassino!
Western most of.
Got forces for CWB (Union), SCW ( Republican). Sq Bashing LW Brits.
I ve also got 2 tables to make a 5 by 6. And up to four 4 x 2 tables.
Scenery for most 12 x 6 templates but please tell me what you want before I get there ? I haven't got a car big enough to bring it all ?
Miles

It will be nice to see Les again after so long.
Simon
I can do Vietnam (I know, again, but I don't get bored of it :) ).
Or AK47 (shock horror - no grids!) or (if someone can lend me some bad guys) Late War Square Bashing: I have the Brits and the table / scenery, but no opposition, yet.
Simon
I've painted quite a lot of Sudan stuff last year so maybe PITS.
Or Vikings. Not played that in a while.
Variety is the spice of life, so it'll be something no one else brings.
At this stage it was more of a general enquiry. I have only played the occasional game with these rules, the last was back in 2022 at the northern event. Would that be a problem? If I do come I would want accommodation for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday as it is quite a trek down from Falkirk. I also need to confirm a dog sitter.
Simon, I got bad guys for AK47 !
2 forces are already boxed ready.
Miles
It would be great to see you there Dave.

Thanks Miles. However, it's the bad guys to fight the Brits in SB that I would be missing ;)
Simon
I will bring along my 28mm Gunfight stuff. Even if only to have a go at the mini games with loads of stuff/larger figures.
Derek
Simon, I am happy to bring along a late war German army.
Just let me know and it will be done.
martin :)
Thank you Martin.
In that case, it looks as though I'll be running a Square Bashing game, then Stewart :)
Simon
I am just checking with my dog sitter but if that is OK count me in
Dog sitter confirmed.
How do I pay?
Dave - please email stewart@speedygroom.co.uk

Derek - 28mm gunfight
Stewart
We have room for 5 6x4 tables
So we need 25-30 games
1 session Friday evening
3 sessions Saturday morning, afternoon, evening
1 session Sunday morning
+ a few games Sunday afternoon
but we need to be out of rooms by 1200 and the games rooms by 1500 ,
So staff can clean down for Monday
Stewart
Are you going to run your Western mega-game again, Stewart? That was great fun and could easily cope with more players. Maybe fewer but bigger games this year overall?
Simon
Sunday pm will need to be shorter games then.
Pirate land raid?
Gamettes.
martin :)
I can do CWB, WA, PBI, B&I, C&K, BB.
John

I can bring my Viking Duel gamette.
The Pirate Land Raid games are great - I always seem to end up playing several at WWW.
Simon
I'm assuming the 3 sessions on Saturday night is a typo 😂
That's a lot of games! I'm thinking about bringing one of the older RFCM games. Maybe even Abteilung!
I think we can play 3 in an evening Sean. Just need to stay up all night.
martin :)
My current offering
1. Pirate land raid for Sunday afternoon. If Stewart brings his one too, we can have 2 tables of land raid.
2. Assuming work gets underway on AK "People's Edition" and it is in a playable form I will put it on 3 times as many are interested (I hope).
3. CK. A very nice game. Others can bring armies if they want to use them.
I will organise a discount code for the WWW too.
martin :)
Thanks Martin - I'm in for AK47 as well as a spot of pirating!
Simon
I'd like to have a go at AK47. Up for most PP games in fact, except MOCB.

Its just the couple of times I have played it..........just little appeal to the system. Nothing against it, it just didn't click with me unlike most other PP rule-sets. Just the way it is.

I felt that way about the current version of Regiment of Foote, Derek :(
Which no doubt makes me a heretic. I do very much like the PP ECW figures, though.
Simon
My mind is constantly changing over what to bring!
If I bought down AWI or ACW, would people prefer to play a set scenario of one of the historical battles so you're straight into he game without having to design your list and do the pregame? Or would you want the full experience of pre game and designing your list?
For me it would be pre game. It's what makes AWI and CWB so good.
John
I prefer historical scenarios every time but will play anything
Signed up and looking forward to a full weekends gaming

Stewart
That's great Stewart, thanks - good to know we're all happy with a bring-your-own policy.
We do have those 3 games to play all on Saturday evening too, so it may be a late night.
As long as I get my black pudding on Sunday morning, all should be fine.
Simon
Here here to the Black Pudding.
So CK and PBI are the 2 big subjects for this year ?
Will AK 47(revamp) going to be up and running by then ?
Does anyone want to do a "Big game" of something? As we do have table space and a good chunk of a weekend to do it ? Without it being a re fight of Waterloo or something in 28mm ? On a one to one basis ?
It's better to ask the question now ?
If not as we normally do ? Small games with the options of some bigger tables adaptions ?
Miles
1. Big games are very enjoyable. A problem is that a player might find a big game going on for two sessions and thus miss out on something else. If a big game can be designed to move fast then that is good. In big games many years ago we used to cut the table into 3 or 4 slices each of which carried on at their own speed. We did it with ACW a couple of times. The end to end HI game was similar. Mike's Ardennes game worked in slices too, but was a major event in itself. Stewart did a big Western game last year which went down well. Maybe a revised version of that? Is there a big game you fancied Miles?
2. I intend AK to be at the WWW. It will not be a finished rule set. It should be advanced enough to allow games to be enjoyable and engaging. Play testing will have started in July? This gives 3 months of playing before WWW.
martin :)
I'd very much like to play Stewart's Western game again, if he's up for the rather large undertaking that it represents. I believe that it is in theory even bigger than what we did with the number of players we had last year.
Simon
I was just looking at possible options, now we have bigger table space, just to get the minds working ?
As you were saying Martin maybe we could have a "big game" but split it up over several tables ?
If we don't do it this year it's something to think about over the next couple of years ?
The linked table is a good game type to go with. I know people enjoyed the HI game at Entoyment last year ?
It will be nice to see the new version of AK there.
Must admit I ve got some many more bits now for the game system. Trucks, loads of Civilians types as well as military, tanks as Team Yankee has come up with loads of options for us nowadays, giving Martin more chance to sculpture his supreme infantry that others can't seem to match ! Other things from various other sources other the years.
Thinking of the fact we have been doing Beach landing games, and Italy. Maybe some PBI games based around 1944 (Italy) as there is a mixed batch of different armies and vehicles involved and tanks generally support infantry rather than dominate the table ? Which fits in with PBI more ? British and Commonwealth, Italians fighting (by then) either side ? The USA of all types, As well as all types of German infantry and tanks.
Anzio type beach landing, Mikes Airwar game as a lot of B17s and others were based in southern Italy.
These games don't need Hugh tables or massive investment in doing these.
I ve got that "Valley game" that Simon gave us for Crete and the templates could soon be adapted to do a scene from an Italian based game ?
Just a thought or two ?
Just to get people thinking over the next 6 months or so ?
Miles
My thinking
At the moment
We have 11 players staying in the hotel
Plus Saturday 6 day players of which maybe 3 attend for Friday night and Sunday
So what about
Friday 4 or 5 games 3 or 4 players each
Saturday 5 games 3 or 4 players
Sunday large game 5 or 6 players plus 1 or 2 other games 3 or 4 players each
Stewart
Five games per session sounds achievable Stewart
Good job Stewart.
martin :)
Good plan.
I can see New AK, C&K, PBI, SCW, and probably AWI on the cards.
Plus maybe some oiratical action on land or sea along with some gamettes.
Would there be a possibility of our own little bring amd buy? I'm sure we've all got things to shift. And because we're all a trustworthy lot it wouldn't take much manpower.
Bring and buy fine by me.
Do bring your trench raid game Sean
martin :)
Definitely coming down - really looking forward to it
It will be good to see you there Dave.
There will be games from Friday tea time until Sunday 3pm. End to end.

Yes of course Miles. Hmerin Iron is a tried and tested staple of any Weekender.

Now it's September, my calendar tells me that we're two months away from the greatest wargaming spectacular since the last one.
It's also got me thinking about what game to bring down. I'm thinking one of 5 possible.
1. Western
2. CWB
3. RCW Squarebashing
4. SCW
5. Regiment of Foote.
I'll bring one of these games down in it's entirety. I'll also bring an AK47 army plus trench raid and maybe another gamette.
Did we discuss games previously? I'm bringing WW1 Squarebashing, I believe...

We need some new PBI somewhere I think!
You can play Miles's Monte Cassino PBI game, Sean :)
Simon
I hope Sean does play the Monte Cassino as I was bringing it as he wanted to play it !( I will bring it if it's wanted ? It does take up a bit of room in my car ? I am bringing Matt and Gary so I will have limited room this year ?
But we do need some other PBI as well as AK 47 as these are both games of this year ?
But the Ardennes as first suggested by John is a games day subject so a few more of us can play ?
I would love to play a desert and/or Mediterranean type game as well ?
Miles
Do fancy playing ROF and Sq Bashing and some AWI too ?
Miles
Maybe don't bring Monte Casino Miles if your car would be too cramped?
Overnight bags etc. might give over fill??
martin :)
Yes for Monte Casino. The James Holland book is out soon so I'll read up on it.
It wouldn't be too cramped if I know I am bringing it for a reason ?
Everyone said yes to Factory game last year, after I done all the changes that everyone wanted me to do to it to make it a game?
Then they all seemingly avoided it ?
So as long as everyone is willing to play the game ? Then I am happy to put it in the car ?
Who is going to Supply there Germans especially their Paras ?
Miles
I dont have any suitable figures I'm afraid.
I can bring along Germans, if you like, Miles and Sean?
Simon
I don't mind as long as someone has some opposing figures suitable for Italy.
Simon has a good selection of German Paras. Remember you will be defending but we if you play Germans ? But we still do the 1-36 to see what forces both sides bring to the table ?
It's just the Commonwealth will be Attackers and Germans will be Defenders but who chooses what I why we roll ?
If you want to write out a points list Sean ?
I ve got one from Colours ? Worked very well for the Commonwealth?
Technically they are a bit of everything, British, Poles, French, Canadians and Kiwis, depending on which battle(date) you wanted to go for ?
As they are representing them all, as it's 3 battles on one table ?
Town, Castle and the Monastery.
Miles
400pts Miles?
I have a few German FJ. Should they be veteran? Apparently their status was somewhat exaggerated by Goebels.
I will see what I have (not painted yet!) and maybe fill them out to a full army to bring for Cassino.
This comes to 400pts [current Company Architect]
Veteran FMJ
CC with SMG
1st Platoon
PC rifle
6 Assault Rifles
2 MG42
3 Panzerfausts
2nd and 3rd Platoon
PC rifle
6 rifles
2 MG42
4 Panzerfausts
4th Platoon
PC rifle
3 mortars
2 rifles
Only 4 platoons is not great, but with veterans the platoons would need to be smaller to get the MMG Platoon. The list restricts you to a maximum of 3 infantry platoons and 5 platoons overall.
No points for vehicles, and the only anti tank is the panzerfausts but there are 11 of them and can be very useful.
Around 120 figures all in, including lots of dead. If I'm being pedantic (and I usually am...), I'll need the later war FJ figures where possible.
Comments, ideas, suggestions or criticism welcome!
Sean,
If you're primarily building this force for Monte Cassino, I'd go Average. And drop the Panzerfausts.
The Germans are on the defensive and want to pick off their opponents as the latter grind their way up the hillside.
We didn't get any further at Colours as we were all dead by then!
Simon
Did you have a lot of smoke available to cover your moves?
Those medium mortars can provide on table smoke.
That force will be nice to paint Sean.
If you attack then you will regain one of the platoons too.
Being veteran it can launch successful assaults but not too many of them.
This army can win.
martin :)

Ah, but this is a scenario!
Actually, the FJ list is ripe for revision. Later in the war, one could argue that certain units were Average at best.

Simon
This would seem to fit in with James Hollands book.
In a stroke of luck, I've just been gifted a box of plastic FJ by a friend with whom I was chatting about PBI and Cassino. Now I've not painted anything that hasn't been Peter Pig in a long time and I feel a bit guilty that I might now not need any other FJ. So to assuage the guilt I'll have to buy something else like the new shanty buildings or Toyotas when they're released!
Also...drop the panzerfausts in favour of getting some MMGs?
It's not really a Scenario as such. Just a table styled on the battles of Monte Cassino area from February to May 1944 all on one table. The British are actually Commonwealth forces as they could be any of forces that had a role in the 8th Army ?
It's more a fixed scene table with 12 templates and 20 partials and 3 objectives as per rules. We still do the 36 points, as the "Defenders" might be able to get that slight advantage that they loose by the fixed templates ?
The only table only "rule" is the "very rough hill"which stops forces coming straight across the easy side of the table and going str8 into the Monastery, without suffering some sort of "penalty" for first climbing up a "Big Hill/Mountain"
Ideal is the use of FMJ, but and Germans for 1943-44 would be exceptable ?
Vehicles are not very good on this table, possibly get isolated or by passed entirely?
I do find for the Commonwealth to attack properly it's best to have them as Veterans, using the "spare" vehicle points ?
I ve tried to make it PBI as normal game friendly as one can with what is available to me with the scenarios and scenery settings. Obviously they are some "rules" I have to follow ?
Miles
Just found these pictures showing the Castle and Monastery showing the Height difference and why I had to put in Very Rough Hill for side access to the Monastery rather than use the main road ?
Also why I put some height into the model in the first place ?

I like the concept of a very rough hill. It could be a house rule for scenario games where it's impossible to everything creating an interesting challenge.
Ok I think I'll paint these plastic figures up in a quick a dirty manner for a game of Cassino.
Then I'll spend my money on Shanty buildings, Toyotas and either some more Samurai or WW2 Japanese to fight my 14th Army.

I don't think you can buy the Toyotas yet though...I can see an 'Add to Cart' button anyway.
These will form part of my order to collect at the Weekender which come tomorrow we can say is next month ;D
You are indeed correct, Sean.
I'm assuming this is an oversight, as they were on the PP stand at Colours, and very nice they are too!
Simon
Mind you, you are a day ahead of the rest of the country. I'm going to have to wait until Tuesday to be able to say that WWW is next month ;D
Simon
Julie will add the button tomorrow.
We are awaiting the casualty versisons too.
martin :)
Today is my last day of retirement as I start my new job tomorrow. It's clearly addled my brain 🤣
Good luck tomorrow, Sean - I hope you manage to maintain your high level of wargames output post-retirement.
Simon
Bishop at last Sean. Well done.
God bless you.

Well I'm rather underwhelmed by the plastic Fallschirmjager. Not much detail and some distinctly 'Airfix' type poses. They will get a quick paint job and I'm sure still fight valiantly, but I don't like them at all 😅🤣
Are they Plastic Soldier Company or Flames Of War, Sean?
John
PSC
I've painted PSC early war Germans and late war British. I agree that the detail is lacking and some of the poses questionable, but I found them easy to paint and I thought they looked ok once completed and based. However far inferior to the piggy equivalents. The FOW figures are better. The thing that disappoints me about both is the price. I thought that when plastics came onto the market one of their selling points was that they were about half the price of metals, but this differential has disappeared. Martin's figures are still the best and worth every penny.
John
I salute you John
martin :)
I concur. I haven't bought these - they were gifted, so if I don't get along with them not out of pocket.
What is the current summary of games, along with the runners and riders Stewart?

Les you are welcome to join in PBI, but it is the table I took to Colours this year. As some have asked for it "Sean" to be brought along ?
It is a normal 400 point game, Allies being attackers and Germans defending but everything else is per game rules also added to stop players flying up the side of the Monastery Mountain side, 4 squares of Very Rough Hill have been included? As this represents 1500 meter climb ? So you can enter but not exit in the same turn ? But it does mean your next move you can Assault and claim the bonus for a short Assault!
The easiest way is thru the front door !
Allies does mean any force in any of the 4 main battles ? I will provide my 8th Army ? But if someone want to swap it for another then be my guest ? US, British, Polish, New Zealanders- Canadians also French Arabs ? The game was set up to show the main parts of the Battle(s)with combat in the town, against the Castle and then the Monastery itself. Also to show you can lift a PBI table without spoiling the main combat system. Yes if you are in the Monastery you can see most of the table if your on the outside wall ?
Germans should be a Fallschirmjäger? Again if anyone who wants to play has got their own please bring it along ?
Miles
(https://i.postimg.cc/XZr8QW9Q/IMG-4283.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/XZr8QW9Q)
Hammering Iron.
Arkansas to have its run again ? So we get to use most types of ships ? Confederates are Attacking again ?
If not I could do another ? But I don't want to bring "All" my ships this time just what is needed ?
Miles
Stewart might be adding in more games?
There is plenty of space for up to 6 games simultaneously?
martin :)
Martin
6 games would be a squize, there is room for 5 games comfortably
Short of people that will run a game
Stewart
I think Matt and Gary are bringing games?
How many day time attendees on the Saturday?
You are doing good work Stewart.
martin :)
I didn't know I was doing Vietnam too, but happy to do so if someone can lend me some White Star forces (mine sadly are still not done...)

How about adding my sci fi game to Sunday afternoon? or morning if Chris is interested?

I hope I am not speaking out of turn (much)?
Extra games are needed for the numbers present. Can you do another game Sean??

Just put in my order for the weekend, if it can't be done before I will happily pick it up week Saturday or the one after ?
Miles
A wise move Miles and it is not too late for others to join us at Wessex Wargames Society on 7th December for some AK47. Let me know if you are interested and I will give you the low down.

Many thanks for Stewart organising this years event.
A great and as ever very very tiring weekend!
Unfortunately another without Sean again. Sorry to hear about the death in your family.
It was nice to see Martin make it even though he was not too well.
It is nice to have him on hand when you need to discuss a problem with the rules !
Nice to see the usual crowd and a few that haven't been there for a while or first time as well.
Dinner at the Three Chimneys was worth going to, well recommended Stewart!
Roll on next year.
Miles
Many thanks to Stewart for organising us once again.
Also to everyone else for putting on and playing in the wide range of games.
I'd like to book again for next year, please ;)

Derek
Great weekend. Thanks to all. See my e-mail.
John
Everyone worked hard to make this a great weekend.
The result was very successful.
A big thanks to Stewart for being the organiser too.
martin :)
A great weekend as ever. Thanks to Stewart, Martin and all who
made it happen. I would like to post some pictures but need a tutorial please, someone.
Mike
This might help with pictures Mike(??)
Get your pictures on to your computer. Assuming they are on a mobile phone. I can help with that.
Once the pictures are on your computer use "rename" to give each picture a name you like.
When making a post or reply on the RFCM forum, there will be a box below your typing with a capital P and "add image to post" words.
A "post image" page will appear.
The option box will say "choose image".
The computer will then invite you to go to any location on your machine and click on the picture you fancy.
When you down here at PPHQ I will show you.
martin :)
martin :)
Thanks Martin, I'll give a go.
Mike
We played 3 Air War games covering, USAAF Heavy Bombers v Luftwaffe Fighters, RAF Light Bombers v Luftwaffe Fighters and a final desert based game with Luftwaffe Fighter-bombers, Dive-bombers and Fighters v RAF Fighters. The long awaited rules are due out in January and the games at the WWW helped to iron-out a few wrinkles so greatful thanks for those who played.
