Title: Historical battles for CK
Post by: martin goddard on December 19, 2023, 12:17:50 PM
I am going to produce a couple of historical battles laid out for CK.
More soon(?)

The idea is to make them standard CK games with a bit of scenario change without making it all very complex.

Once I have done this maybe others might want to do some as well.

I am going to do battle which are not that famous.
This gives players a chance to play the battle and then see the historical outcome.
Unless they are very tempted.
The battles will be squeezed into a CK format so that a standard table and army can be mostly used.

First battle will be 89BC  River Amnias
Pontic defender  Bythinian attacker.

I will be ready just after Christmas.

A nice idea. We can all learn stuff about some more obscure battles.

They are going to be great fun.
It seems a constant that many generals make a run for it as the battle turns against them or sometimes even before

It looks like it's going to be an interesting fight. A real test of two very different forces.

Let me know if you get to fight it. I am getting the crew together to give it a try in January 2024  if they are up for it?

Love the Portuguese part 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎. What a clever way to delay the reader from 'just taking a peek....'!

Did the Portuguese win the battle? Why is there no Portuguese army list for C & K?

This sounds like a great idea Martin. I am going to give 43AD a go with my current crop of Romans and Briton, after Christmas day and hence Christmas dinner is out of the way. It will be a very underscaled game as the introductory pack from WoFun does not make 300 point armies but it will give me a chance to try out some of the systems. I will bulk them out in the New Year, and then have a look at some of the historical battles, such as Medway and those involving the Iceni.

I'm disappointed it wasn't written in Pontic Greek or some form of ancient Turkish. Are your standards slipping, Martin?

Great stuff - I love that you have chosen lesser-covered battles, rather than the usual Issus/Hydaspes/Marathon or whatever. Must brush up on my Portuguese 🙂

There are now 4 scenarios.
By the and of 2024 it would be nice to have about 40 so that players can choose to fight an historical battle at short notice.

I will try to add battles from a variety of ancient wars too.

When you have forty odd you can compile them in a book and sell it and make your fortune!

The link on the PP home page to the 3 historical battle scenarios unfortunately doesn't work for me (it opens a small box with little content).

Also, while clicking on the CK rules text on the home page takes me to the rules section, the 'New' badge in the same text box takes me to the WW1 figures page.

A little bit of rewiring may be in order?

While I'm being awkward about the website, it might be an idea to move the hyperlink to Range 3 to the new rules, and delete the 1998 version references (since these are no longer available for sale, unless a PDF version will be offered in due course)?

Notwithstanding my technical comments below, I do really like the historical CK scenario format: clear, succinct, and highlighting forgotten battles - lovely!

Thanks for spotting those bits Simon.
I appreciate it when folk find these bugs.
It is easy for me to change so all plus.
