I hope you like them, Andy.

I think Martin's done a great job in bringing out the essentials of what most of us expect from an Ancients ruleset without the complexity that is often present in others' rules for the "period". So, "simple but not simplistic", and good fun too!

Indeed, having now got past the halfway mark I can see mechanisms I am familiar with, plus some more which have been simplified. I currently own no painted Ancients, but wishing to get into these rules ASAP I have sent for some 18mm WoFun Romans and Britons, ready painted with 30mm frontage bases.

They should do the job well, Andy.

The markers are easily made from card.

And the scenery is not complicated.

Armies arrived from Romania after only four working days. Put the
Romans together this evening. Will have a crack at the Britons tomorrow, then finish reading the rules and start practicing after next Thursday (need the table up 'til then.
