Title: Quiet time
Post by: martin goddard on October 21, 2023, 07:29:58 AM
Not much new at the moment.
This is due to  me having a weekend away and doing some DIY. All righteous.
On the slab at the moment are Macedonian mounted skirmishers, dead and Alexander the great (16mm tall).

On the rules front CK is away at  the printers and PBI is just swinging into view with both arms waving.

Thanks for the updates, Martin.

You may want to allow yourself a little time off more often too?  :)

I look forward to a 16mm tall Alexander. My Romans would like to order a 14mm tall Caesar please  with all the trimmings.

Shouldn't Alexander be smaller? 13-14mm
Or are you going for "heroic"?

I hadn't realised he was so short.

The interweb offers estimates of 5'4" to 5'5", and even as little as 5 feet ["the average height for Greeks of that time"?!].

Yep. Apparently Darius was a tall muscular type.......
One up for us normal / shorties over the freakishly developed giants....☺

Yes, Alexander was a little guy.

Franco 5'2" or 5 '3"
Lenin 5'5"
Napoleon, Mussolini, Churchill 5'6"
Hitler 5'8"

One out of 6 then ☺ the rest are average height, especially for the time.

Stalin may have been short estimates vary.

All figures from the internet.....

It would seem then that Alexander was probably about the same height as other Macesonians and not head and shoulders above, unlike Tsar Nicholas' uncle.

Short by modern standards though  :)

Probably there or there abouts for the average height of the time.

I must admit to being surprised by how "average" in height Hitler was. He always seemed to be surrounded by much taller people.

Napoleon was called "le petit caporal", though, which I'd always assumed implied that he was shorter than his peers.

I think Martin fully deserves some time off to stop his fingers smoking...
You should see Napoleon's explanation in 'Time Bandits'... but it is all down to interpretation of 'figure scale'- or is that 'ego scale'?  ;D

Thanks for the support.
The PP Alexander will be 16mm so that he can also be used with other ranges of figures that are not 15mm.

Personally I think a slightly "bigger" leader especially in ancients is a good idea. Gives that "Grand" touch to the leader/General/King base.

Very commendable. I look forward to buying him when he arrives.
