Many thanks Martin.
Must admit I don't know if this formation that's good or bad ? I assume they must be a relatively good force to use ?
I ve still got so much to learn. It is very much a period catch up for me. But you have to start somewhere, and having knowledge of many PP rules beforehand I can fudge a game together?
I must admit there are some forces I would like to paint up as well ?

This Carolingian army has enough close order foot to give 2 strong zones with close order combined.
The cavalry will provide 2 good mounted zones.
I suggest that the cavalry form up on one flank and the infantry on the other.
The cavalry can either head on charge the enemy flank if it is weak or work around the side of the enemy army.
The mounted skirmishers should stay with the cavalry wing and the foot skirmishers can cover the close order foot.

The generals should seek "valiant" in order to get to grips quickly with an enemy.
lack of armour will cause more bow casualties if the Carolingians stand around for too long.

The Carolingians are a decent army but not as good as successors but better than Germans.

So what Martin is really saying here, Miles, is that if he beats your Carolingians with his Germans then he's a far better general than you are   :)  :D ;D

Indeed Simon.
Being king of the Germans is a role chosen by the god of the forest.
No need to branch out into armoured troops.
They bough to no opponnet.
