Given artillery are excluded from assualts it was argued they had thus not participated in an assault and thus could fire in the shoot phase.
Is this correct??
That is how we play it.
The rationale being the shooting rules say that units not fighting can shoot, and artillery cannot fight

It is whether the square has been involved in an assault this turn. So although the artillery contributes nothing toward the fight it still counts as being busy. i have assumed that they are disrupted in any turn in which enemy infantry or cavalry are in their vicinity killing people.
If guns are on their own they will fight as a last ditch desperate measure. they will count as unworthy and therefore only attract 2D6. i have witnessed guns deflecting poor assaults.
