1. I have some very old ancient Celt types that are all based on WRG bases 3 figures to a base. In C&K for both the German or Gallic armies there is a mix of Close Order and Auxiliary troops. Does anyone use 3 figure bases for close order but just use a marker or similar to denote them as such? I'm reluctant to rebase to be honest but want to ensure clarity and to have the ability to field both types of unit.
2. I've forgotten what the second question was.

Although the rules clearly say 4 figures to a base for close order I should think that as long as they are clearly identified as close order you would be fine.
Maybe movement trays clearly marked as close order may help with that rather than having loose markers floating round the table that become detached from their parent unit. Between markers for battlefield tactics, winning the fight markers and, with some people, quality markers it can get a bit crowded.

I have a similar issue with my Spanish Almughavari - which were variously skirmishy or auxiliary types... Do I base them as skirmishers (pairs) or auxiliaries (3s)? Luckily I'm using Lion Rampant but with all my troops using DB* bases. I just have fewer stands per unit as the rules do a body count.
Rebasing is such a faff - I'd keep as is and use markers or movement trays. As long as it is clear to your opponent they should understand.

Great ideas chaps. Movement trays are the way forward I think.
Knowing what a shady character you are Sean, I bet you"ll be telling your opponent that they are close order or auxiliaries as it suits you.
Seriously though, as long as they are clearly recognisable for what they are supposed to be, then it is good. my armies {bar one} are all based for FOG/DBM. So no rebasing required.

Thanks John...I'll make sure to get a game with you at WWW and hopefully confuse you to ensure the win ;D ;D ;D
