I just looked at the Salute wargame show reports.
Looks like the show was really good.
Most impressed by the games pictured.

Here is a link to one report.
It seems the show is back to normal, which is good news.
martin :)
I had heard rumours that this was going to be the last one or the last one at the current venue. But then I've heard these rumours before.
John
I know not what they intend, but I expect Salute to be there for many more years.
Just a guess.
Some show have disappeared due to venue problems.
I used to enjoy the Elizabeth hall for the Dunstable "Roll Call" show. They knocked the hall down, which was a problem.
Loughton had a similar problem in London I believe?
I really liked Southern Militaire (1976/77) and expect that to come back (??)
Aldershot was good too.
martin :)
Warfare had a similar problem in that the Rivermead Leisure Centre got demolished. I think I heard from one source (reliable or not) that the contract with the current venue was up after this year and that they were moving to the Alexandra Palace, which I imagine would be just as suitable if not better (it has parking for one thing) and probably a lot cheaper. Not doubt we will hear soon enough.
John
I quite liked Salute when it was at Kensington Olympia... not so much Kensington Town Hall (too cramped). No doubt the venues priced themselves out of the running. SELWG at Crystal Palace sports arena was a familiar venue for many years which I frequented on a number of occasions. I don't do shows now... I'm a bit agoraphobic :(
Neil
How about we put on a game at next year's Salute if there is a Salute show?
It would be a nice day out?
martin :)
That's a good idea, Martin.
Simon
Count me out. I don't do Salute anymore.
John
Very good idea. Maybe a Piggie zone, like the Lardies zone. 2 or 3 Piggie games wouldn't take up much space and maybe people could do an order and collect at the show.
Too far and expensive for me to travel to though I'm afraid. Close to a hundred pounds just to get hough the door!
I have to say £25 just to park is ridiculous - even if it is London
Just kicking ideas about.
Let us see what unfolds ???
martin :)
I'm in the same situation as Sean at least £100 to get through the door.
I did go one year and resolved never to go again. There are at least 4 shows a year within a very easy day trip for me.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Thats cheap Sean, for just the travel £140.00 for around 16 hours on a coach or £201 to City Airport. Train 260.00 Euros 7 hours. And the ferry is £449.00
So unless I can combine the visit it is a dear day out.
Sounds like you have a bargain .
Ah but I'm sure you pay less then us for better wine, Les ;)
Simon
Compared to international travel Les, yes its cheaper. When I drive to Weymouth it generally costs me £60-70 in fuel depending on which car I take. But I'd choose Weymouth with am Entoyment games day over Salute every time.
Having said that if a Piggie corner was developed I'd do my best to support it.
Personally felt Salute was something of a let down this year, initial reaction on entering the usual gloom of the main hall was that there were far fewer traders than normal, this wasnt quite the case in the end after walking around, but there seemed to be less trade. One thing I don't understand is that with literally acres of free space now around the stalls, why are the trdaers crammed into such small spaces? Remember almost having a panic attack in the crush at Caliver books.Maybe somebody from SLW can answwer this? There didnt seem to be the big eye catching games of years past, perhaps this might be a good thing in the long term as professionally linked games to the big names are replaced with genuine enthusiasts games, e.g. something we call all practically aspire to. A big thankyou to everyone involed in organising the event.
