Title: Tactical advice
Post by: martin goddard on March 30, 2023, 09:46:24 PM
As a chap who seldom wins I thought it vital that I share my "tips for longship raiders".

1. If defender do wait fora second unit to turn up before seeking a fight.
2. Scenery. You must choose 7 pieces. 3 must be buildings. Do choose a coupe of woods as they give cover when being shot at.
3. Let the raider units spread out before trying to pick them off. They are disadvantaged when carrying plunder.
4. Maybe make one of your leaders "lethal" in order to challenge everyone he meets?  Grrrr!
5. Be prepared to break off in your own turn of you are about to get hit on a second face.
6. Try to get  the "gift from god" as early as possible. There are always  lower value bits lying about.
7. The  "starting in a fort" is Ok, but it does give away your position.
8. Use your berserker whenever possible.

Are you keeping your favourite tactic of "If in doubt, a mad headlong charge always wins the day" a secret, to ensure you win even against folk who follow your tips, Martin?  ;D

In my experience it's worth the defender hovering adjacent to buildings to prevent attacker searches, they end up trying to chase you away, waste time and they don't find enough to win!

Being on a hill can help!

Practice rolling 6's. It's the only way. Stewart is the master. With the loss of poor Rob Roriston, I'm now the master of NOT rolling 6's.

I think I'll get my Vikings out and have a game as I'm on family duties on the 8th.

Chris has the most appalling D6 rolls I have recently witnessed.
I think Sean can do similar with practice?

The pointless frontal assault must always be the tactic of choice. Couple this with unfounded confidence. I have studied Custer.
