Title: Terrain and gunboats
Post by: Forst22 on March 28, 2023, 08:25:15 AM
Just starting to look at Patrols in the Sudan with gunboats, given half the table is covered in water, the rules don't seem to make any allowances for terrain piece numbers.

Is there any convention on reducing the volume of terrain when using gunboats?

First thought is limiting the start  terrain to a) the water and b) two other pieces, and then allowing the dervish to choose 2 more.

Or do people use the full amount and just accept that most won't fit/ will be very terrain heavy!

Hello Graham
The usual scenery rules apply. The gunboat has the advantages of a mobile gun platform and the ability to land at various places instead of starting at one end. Those games do look really nice too.
We have had many great games using gunboats.

Of course you can change the rules. They are yours but any change  might/will cause un-anticipated game balance problems.

Good luck.

Replace some with sandbars or small islands in the river itself?
