The Huron is on the HI scenarios.
The Huron is a US 90 day gunboat.
Medium gun PIVOT at front.
Heavy gun (pivot in the middle). Shoots left and right.
A single left and a single right broadside light gun.
Wooden
1862 onwards.
martin :)
Thanks Martin. After the WWW HI game, and the ones I nearly played in last weekend, I've been reading through the rules again - it's a great game with lots of excuses to buy more toys for.
Maybe after some Dark Ages (following Beachhead and the 'Nam) I'll finally get to paint some up...?
Simon
Do I detect the possibility of additions to the range?
This is a boat/ship that Martin makes already, but there is 22 in the class and there were slightly different armament arrangements between them ? The common feature seems to be the 100 pdr pivot gun in the middle of the hull ! Then after that a number of 12/24 and 32 pdr guns added around the hull. Probably as the war went on the 32 pdr was adjusted to receive larger amounts of explosives to take it up towards a medium gun !
One thing I ve discovered playing HI for the past couple of weekends, using my wooden gunboat fleet. They can pack a lot of guns, but if and when they come up against an Armoured Behemoth then they suffer very very quickly. Twice on Saturday USS Tyler blew up on Critical hits.
Miles
There are some new boats planned.
martin :)
Now you've gone and let the cat out of the bag, Martin!
Simon
Oh no not more for me to buy ! Lol
What great sculptures are on the makers board ? Please do tell ?
Miles
I can see how these little ships can get addictive...
Simon
And should you game the land battles in 3mm then they are absolutely essential whenever a battle gets near a navigable river, especially in the western theatre.
Yes! A long term plan of mine!
No news yet Miles as I am getting the plans done firts.
This should make it more exciting (?)
martin :)
You do like to tease, Martin...
Better make it one that Miles hasn't yet done himself, or there will be competition?
Simon
I will consult with Nigel and Mike in order to discuss materials etc.
Early days.
martin :)
Well here are some pictures of my latest Unadilla class ships I am doing at the moment.

Very nice, Miles.
I'm getting itchy fingers to start on some, but must resist!
Simon
I find myself in the same boat (appropriately enough), but really do want to have a go at more ships, especially after seeing the excellent job Miles is doing.
I know what you mean, Andy. Miles is really a very bad influence on us :D

Are they dress-making pins being repurposed as flag staffs, Miles? I bet Mrs Smiley is happy :)
Nice to see some crew on deck too - something I've not given too much thought to yet...
Simon
The crew mainly come with the guns. On one of them are the 1/450 th scale guns and crew with the heads cut off and a slight file to re address the "crew" figures for the correct look/scale ?
Miles
Spent a day modelling USS Huron and Resolution, as I was on my own with a cold.

Simon
Really nice to see all those wooden gunboats Miles.
martin :)

I will post the pictures of them finished later today, as I washed them. Emote I turned in last night.

Great to see how the detail comes out so well. I'm very tempted....
Simon
USS Unadilla, USS Huron(with the slightly taller sides), USS Cayuga, USS Resolution, CSS Teaser, 'Bigbee boat' and 'Porter Atlanta' with USS Socitia already done.
All the ships are PP Modified, some more heavily than others.
So I ve got some Union Gunboats to go with my Tyler fleet.

Very nice! These little ships are inspiring some great modelling and painting!
Simon
Still love to know which ones had a superstructure and those that don't ?
Can our American friends help ? Please ?
Miles
What do you mean by superstructure? They were all open decked. The biggest difference in them being mast arrangements and various light cannons supplementing the huge trade mark pivot 11 inch smoothbore cannon mounted in the center of the ship after the first few were built.
A mocked up Union ironclad
Quote "The Black Terror was unleashed upriver from Vicksburg to float leisurely past the Confederate batteries, which unleashed all they had on it, but did no apparent damage. Downriver from Vicksburg, The Black Terror was spotted by the Queen of the West, a Union warship captured by the Confederates and now in CSN possession and use. She quickly retreated farther downriver and warned the Indianola, which was being salvaged and repaired. The Queen of the West retreated up the Red River, never to return to the Mississippi. Upon appearance of The Black Terror, the Indianola was destroyed by her crew. At a cost of $8.64, the Indianola was destroyed, the Queen of the West never returned to the Mississippi, and no lives were lost. With no armaments, no propulsion, and no crew, "The Black Terror" earned a battle record worthy of any U.S. warship."
martin :)
"North South Naval Images" by Atteridge is a book with 50 ACW ship plans.
I would quite like a copy (at a reasonable price).
Anyone have a copy??
martin :-\
The PP one has some form of a structure around the funnel area ? Also the Bridge as such seems to be part of it ?
Where can we in Britain get information related to the layouts of these ships please ?
Miles
