Todays mould.
Probably the last Carolingian packs.
Cavalry in cloak (Elite??)
Charlemagne and standard bearer on horses.
Will get photos done in the next two days.
Only pack left to do is the dead.
martin :)
Ooh - the great man himself? - how wonderful!
Do send photos!
Simon
Great Martin
Thanks for the update
Stewart
Lovely work Martin.
Please enjoy your Christmas break with family and friends.
Merry Christmas!
Helen
Thanks all.
I will try to get the photos done tomorrow (monday) ::)
martin :)
Lovely. I found some nice images for Carolingian shields today to assist with painting.
Where did you find those images, Sean? I've been buying up all the relevant Osprey books I can find, but detail on shields - and particularly banners - seems pretty scant.
Simon
Can't speak for the sources but try Googling "Carolingian shields".
Bankinista
Bankinista - that's really my point - relevant / credible results - ideally from reputable sources. And not featuring lots of women who happen to be called "Caroline Shields" :)
Simon
I've just seen the photos of this latest mould - really lovely sculpts, Martin - this range is an absolute beauty!
Simon
Thanks
martin :)
I will endeavour to have the photos up here tonight....
Simon
With only 1 pack to do I can now try to catch up with some other pressing stuff.
Phew!
martin :)
1 pack! - not the 3 degree of death this time, then? ;D

Here you go it's a pack of decals, that are 15mm, but I'll use them as inspiration when I come to paint mine. Not a fan of shield decals - too fiddly and in any case, Martin has engraved the shields for us already.
That is very useful Sean.
They might even fit PP shields but the PP shields are quite convex (curved) and not smooth because of the spiral etchings.
martin :)
I've just received Osprey's "The Conquest of Saxony 782-785", which I'd not heard of until recently.
It includes some artwork with nice simple designs (plain red, blue or yellow, or red and yellow spirals, as per Martin's etchings) for the shields. I'm minded to go with this style...
Simon
The new photos of the Carolingians look very good.
There are 4 other Carolingian ranges in 15mm.
This PP range is intended to give some new stuff to the dark ages range, offer a Peter Pig solution to those wishing to do Carolingians and make sculpts really awkward for Mike and Nigel to deal with :).

This is presumably a challenge for us to name them all ;D? I'm aware of:
- Baueda
- Magister Militum (Chariot Miniatures)
- Tin Soldier UK
- Old Glory
- Forged in Battle
Who was on your list, Martin?
Simon
I was thinking of Mini figs too.
The old glory are an 18mm range (18 is nearer to 20mm than 15mm?) so I had not included them
martin :)
And (assuming that your maths was correct) which other one did you not get, Sir? ;D

I think Martin does sculpt a good horse. Many other figure designers struggle e.g. much as I think the Perry twins' figures are wonderful, I don't much like their horses...
Simon
I had a look on the Old Glory UK site and could not see any Carolingians in any scale.
Look under Timecast Andy, they do the Old Glory 15@s

No, wrong Dave - Andy should not be looking there at Old Glory - he should be looking here! ;D

To be honest, all of the other ranges I've seen look dated / stunted / wooden. Hence the need for Martin's lovely new range. Which we could perhaps call "Sweet Caroline"?
Simon
Looking at the pictures Simon I would agree that the OG15's look a little jaded.
I only have Colonial figures from them, which are fair.

I can see some Dark Ages Middle Earth gamers potentially using these cracking sculpts as proxy 15mm Rohirrim...
They all look fab, Martin, well done!
Neil
That's presumably why Martin did the extra pack with cloaks, Neil? ;)
Simon
'Hasn't the guy from Timecast hung up his apron and finally closed the lid on his modelling tools box? I read somewhere that he has retired earlier this year. Well, well, I have just checked the website and it appears that they are not only still up and running but are expanding into Games Workshop territory. That is good news as I like their buildings.
They could not sell the business, so one retired and the other partner has kept it going.

Thanks.
