Title: No base removal
Post by: mellis1644 on October 18, 2022, 04:10:49 PM
I am thinking of rebasing my pike and shot blocks to be a single unit vs. the multiple DBR bases as now. That will work better with some of the rules I play more often (and want to play such as ADLG-R) but not with RoF. They will also look much better allowing for a  80 x 40 base for a full pike and shot unit.

So has anyone plays RoF without half or full base removal? I was thinking of marking each unit with a dice for the number of half bases they have (or 2 for pike and shot in different colours to mark pike vs shot).

Anyone see any issues with this. it actually will allow me to play with smaller number of figs as well, but will mean more markers/dice on the table showing unit status.

One unit per base is good in so far as each base can then be a mini diorama and look superb. Offset by the need for markers etc to show different formations and casualties. Which is best? I personally dislike dice, markers etc attached to units.

I am in the opposite camp and prefer a dice marker (7mm) attached to a large base using a dice frame. Different coloured dice can also work well conveying different information. I find the 7mm die less intrusive than a base label. This works for me in Bloody Barons. Not sure how it would work with RoF, as I have not played the new version yet. Depends how many bases in a unit.
