There is a Western games day at Entoyment 22nd October 2022.
With some trepidation I will put up a list here of useful notes to aid the memories of players.
Members are invited to add to it.
The list can be really long, no problem.
Remember that it is a list of notes to help the players, especially those such as myself who have memory problems.
martin :)
Things to remember.
1. You have to shout "Yi-hah" and slap your thigh when you bring on a new unit.
2. "Eat lead pale face" is a recommended call if one of your native American units kills a US cavalry or settlers base.
3. Trains can only be used in the 3:10 to Yuma scenario.
4. If you have a Randolph Scott figure as your leader you will win, regardless of how the victory points work out.
5. If your liability is a cattle herd then you must sing "Home, home on the range". "Rawhide" is not acceptible as everybody knows the words.
6. Renditions of "Oklahoma" and "Whipcrack Away" are strictly forbidden on the grounds of good taste.
7. Baked beans may be eaten for lunch, but it is polite to warn your opponent in advance so that they can equip themselves with a nose pinch.
8. Players with Mexicans are expected to wear Ponchos and Sombreros and shout "Viva xxxx" and "Ay caramba" whenever possible.
John
All seems clear John. I agree with most of it. But can you point me to the page reference where it says Oklahoma is banned? Its my party piece and feel rather upset that its not allowed.
For you, Sean, I will make a house rule. You can sing Oklahoma as long as you encore it with Surrey With The Fringe On Top.
John
Whipcrack away is the only song I know !
Seriously any singing I do is bad anyway.....
Looking forward to Saturday. Being re taught how to play the game.
Chance to get my "New" find out an Apache Fort.
Miles
Hey! Stop all this enjoyment.
This is serious stuff (?)
1.Shooting is per PAIR. Any single base is rounded up to make a new pair.
2. Only the attacker can call off the game /attack.
3. The attacker can extend the game but must pay for defender's extra turns too.
4. Fights take place in a single square. i.e. the one occupied by the target.
5. Wounded. No victory points for opponent wounded until they are dead. Therefore look after and rescue wounded.
6. The reinforcement group will include a free leader. The leader does not arrive automatically, he is part of the "roll 4D6 to arrive".
7. Gallops must be used before any AP spent or after all AP spent. This allows mounted to move away from a fight after its conclusion.
martin :)
I wonder if 'Hey! Stop all this Enjoyment' was the original title of the much loved RFCM rules, 'Hey, You in the Jail'?
😂🤣
John. I ve got 3 period locomotives but I am having a tough time finding 10 period rolling stock required as you said the ratio was 3:10 ?
How many railway tracks do you want to use ?
What's this "Yuma" is that a finishing move or something the Cowboys eat ?
Still not sure about my ability to sing another song ?
Miles
3.10 to Yuma is one of my favourite westerns. Oddly, I prefer the remake with Russel Crowe to the original!
I like them both, but neither are my favourites. For me the best are Blazing Saddles, True Grit (either version), The Wild Bunch, most Clint Eastwood westerns and the Trinity spaghetti westerns.
John
Who is planning to attend the Western day?

Big Mike complete table set up
Miles

Any one else?
Stewart
I will bring some scenery, plus both my Union Army/Cavalry and Confederate army.
And some trains if anyone wants them ?
Miles
Sorry Stewart - will be busy packing my parachute to drop in on Crete.
I will endeavour to plan my personal life better around your published games days next year ;D
Simon
Right this come up last year but was never really resolved.
If you have an "Artillery Piece" and you roll a 1 or 2 on losses what happens ? As this unit is a one based unit ?
Miles
Dont know the answer...
But rather jealous Im missing as Ive not played Western for a couple of years. Ava has a cup match on Saturday so dad duties on the touchline are required.
