Do most people follow the basing as per the rules or do something different?

Ive always found Johnan upstanding player with regards to the rules.

His dice however...!  :D :D

Paul,

I stick with the basing, but effectively,  so long as both sides are based similarly, it doesnt really matter. So long as you can represent half casualties than all is good.

Yeah just wondering if I reduce base sizes to 20x30 or 25x30 for four figures or simply move to 25x25... just to bring the ranks closer together :)

Or I spend more money and go six on a 30x30 :)

I use the rules bases for Infantry and Artillary, but use only 2 cavalry per base using the rules sized base. (Only 2 on dismounted versions as well). This goes for most of the Peterpig rule sets I use!
