Am just coming back to these rules after quite a bit of a break, pre COVID as I recall. My question concerns the number of save dice that are rolled by the target when shot at. I came across some videos on YouTube where the Dervish were only getting 1 save dice whereas the rules say the minimum is 2 (page 51 of the rule book). Which one is correct?
Hello Bill
You are right. There is a minimum of 2D6 when saving.
I will check out the videos to see what has happened.
If they are ours I can sort that out.
Not sure what I will do if someone else has posted them.
martin :)
The old version allowed 1d6 didn't it !
I will need to look that up Graham.
I had better ask if you staying with the old version before I do that?
martin :)
Hi Martin
Thanks for the reply. I've just checked and the videos were the ones done by you a couple of years ago. I think there may be two separate examples of shooting using 1 save dice.
Further to your question about saying with the old version.
No order for latest version sent yesterday.!
Hello Graham.
No order? OK.
martin :)
Sorry
Missing comma, fullstop!
No = not sticking with old version!
I sent order for new set yesterday, (and some colonial mgs) have PayPal receipt but nothing from your selves. Ie no confirmation email, hope it's in the system somewhere?

Graham, I have found that the PP receipt has sometimes gone into my spam folder. Worth a check?
Simon
Have checked my spam, still nothing!
Have emailed workshop direct to check.
Had to do a search to prove to myself they are normally sent out.
Graham,
I have experienced this issue in the past if I pay by PayPal no Peter Pig order confirmation, if I pay directly using my bank card I get a PP order confirmation. I believe there is a software issue somewhere in the PP / PayPal interface.
An email to the workshop confirmed receipt of the order and all was well, it didn't affect the speed of despatch.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Thanks
Looks like it's sorted now, had a dispatch note and email from the workshop. Hopefully it will arrive before the postal strike!
Must work with PayPal sometimes as I always use it, and have had confirmations in the past. But those have been for models only, not rules?
Thanks
I had a read of the rules play sheet to see what should be done.
This seems to be causing confusion.
The "British shooting" video is indeed wrong and i will need to go back and sort it better----sorry
Here is what should be done.
1.All the shooting D6 variables are applied to the saving roll not the shooting roll.
2.After all the variables are applied the target will have between 2D6 (minimum) and 5D6 (maximum) saving D6.
3. The "1D6 to start with" is the start of the modifiers not the final modifier total. I suspect that this is the point of confusion?
4. After the first D6, other modifiers are applied.
5. All modifiers add to the modifier total. ie the initial 1D6 total will either rise or stay at 1D6.
6. After all modifiers are applied there will be a total between 1D6 and 7D6 accumulated.
7. The rules restrict this total to between 2 and 5D6. This is because less than 2D6 makes death too easy and more than 5D6 makes death too unlikely.
8. The target player then rolls between 2 and 5 D6 to save his "shot at" base.
Most shooting modifiers will be memorised after a first game I suspect.
To help further here is an example.
Poor quality dervish base shoots from long range (over 6").
Target is British infantry base in the open.
The shooter automatically has 3D6 (no modifiers to this number are applied).
Time can be saved by the shooter rolling his D6 first. If they are all fails/misses, then a save roll is unnecessary.
Conversely the target does apply modifiers.
1D6 as an initial modifiers(this is not the total of modifiers, but an initial modifier)
1D6 for being at long range.
1D6 shooter is dervish
1D6 shooter is of poor quality
This gives a total of 4D6.
The target now rolls these 4D6 and hopes for enough 4,5,6 scores to cancel out those created by the shooter.
See if that helps?
martin :)
