I am now in a position to start painting my Mainly Parliamentary army.
Now as there are a few (experts of the subject) on here. I need to ask advise about basic colours.
Is there a hard and fast rules for these regiments. I know New Model Army infantry coats are Red. But this makes a very limited army. A lot of Cavalry seemingly had a yellow/beige coats ?
So if anyone can help by putting up a basic guide to those of us are just looking at starting out ?
Many thanks
Miles
Miles,
I believe that the cavalry beige coats are buff leather.
Someone more knowledgeable than me can fill you in on the NMA!

Actually, this might help at a high level:

This is an excellent quick reference quide.
Both those recommendations are spot on...and it comes down to 'we know very little' about clothing colours. The London Trained Bands are nowadays thought to be in civilian clothing, with a few buff coats among the privileged few. Other regiments seemed to change coat colour depending on what cloth was available at the time of a refit.
The only constant seems to have been the colours (ie flags/standards)....so references to eg "a yellow regiment" refer to the colours, not necessarily the coats.
As the author of the blog linked to above has mentioned a few times, plenty of browns to paint....
Also means you're unlikely to be wrong, as no-one is certain of colourings.
Thank you Gentlemen all good to know so far?
Miles
