Title: Battle of Salem Church ACW
Post by: Smoking gun on June 03, 2022, 04:34:43 PM
Hi guys,
Here's a few photos of last nights game. 15mm played using the Whipping Bobby Lee rules, each base represents a regiment and each block of 3 or 4 bases is a brigade.

A draw last night as the victory conditions required the Union to capture Salems Church and clear the road of troops. The Union were denied the road by a dogged Confederate defence.

Best wishes,

As an aside I went to Salem and the battle field is very clearly visible.
The church is well preserved too.
Gentle rolling countryside.

Anatoli,
The table is 12 x 8 feet, we use 2 x2 ft square terrain boards. There was 6 players.

Martin,
I was talking to the host about the battle and there wasn't a church there just a hut or cabin?

Best wishes,
Martin Buck

Hello Martin

This might throw some light upon the matter?
It was one of the battlefields I visited in preparation for CWB.

The Americans valued churches very highly and built lots of them.
I have visited the Dunker church too.

Hi Martin,
Thank you. It's not a battle I know much about so I'll have to find out more.

Best wishes,

No worries Martin.
I might find my photographs of the battle site. That would be interesting.
It is still very open and not highly built up.
The church is on higher ground which gently slopes away.
Ideal fighting terrain.
A new church has been built next to the original one, which they have left untouched.

Good game by the looks of it.
