Title: What is a breakthrough?
Post by: pallasarmata on May 01, 2022, 04:51:47 PM
In the Victory Points section it gives points for breakthroughs. I can't find the definition in the rules. Assistance?

Breakthrough refers to reaching squares on your opponents baseline.

Nick

It's definitely there somewhere, the golden prize of puswhing troops forward to the enemy baseline, mimicking the dream of the breakthrough to the green fields beyond. Funny how those sunlit uplands are so often out of reach.

P62 - point 12

The reduction for intervention is also mentioned there (if enemy cut off your breakthrough)

thanks

Note 12 on page 63 (which defines breakthroughs) also says: "The score is reduced if the opponent has managed to cut off that avenue of breakthrough with any unit occupying a square in that column." - but by how much?

I first thought this might refer indirectly to the rule in the victory points section about squares held by the enemy in rows 2 and 3, but these squares must specifically be held by infantry or cavalry (not "any unit") to count - am I missing something here?

Only just learning the rules and setting up my first test games here, so there are probably a few stupid questions in the pipeline ...

Hi Snebjørn

No problem on the question  :)

The reduction on the score is on the scoring sheet itself. Here it is from the Squarebashing Day score sheet (but its the same as the rules - just what I have to hand)

SO, for example if the attacker gets a breakthrough (scored at the end of the game by occupying row 1) they are awarded 1d6+3 VPs , if the defender has troops in row 2-6 in the same column (intervention) then they score 1d6

thanks
