One of my friends is very interested in the period. He is put off using Bloody Barons though due to the large number of figures he says are needed.
He says a retinue consists of 24 figures and a small engagement needs 12 retinues. This means that 288 figures are needed.
Does this sound right ? My impression was that the figure requirement was much smaller.
It would be a shame if he was put off the game because he got the wrong end of the stick.
John,
Your friend may be referring to the initial version of the rules, with 4 figures to a base.
The current set is 3 to a base, and a unit of 4 bases (so, twelve figures).
I think he'd need about half the number of figures that he has estimated - maybe even fewer.
Martin may be happy to share a sample list here to illustrate how small a high-quality force could be.
Simon
Thank you Simon. That is a very helpful answer.
John
A typical force would be about 14 foot units (depending on quality)
For variation you would need 3 mounted units,
Hand gunners (mounted single)
Heavy and light guns about 2 of each
Also each force would need
3 General bases
Casualties and 1/2 bases

To give you an idea, I ve just converted my BB V1 army to BB v2 and have ended up with up to 30 Retinues of various ranks. As John W said you only need half of that, to play the game.
