You may not know the name, but if you're British and you're my age, you will know his art. Ian Kennedy has passed away. Ian started at D. C. Thomson & Co. in 1949 as a trainee illustrator and was still working up to his death. RIP Ian and thanks for all those great comic covers.
He was the artist who created a lot of the artwork for the Commando magazine.

That's sad. Commando comic cover artwork is so iconic.
Images from my childhood, along with Airfix magazine and the those b/w war films!
How times have changed.

Ah, the good old days, when it was ok to hate foreigners. Thank goodness we've moved on.........oh, hang on a minute.
He must have produced art at a prolific rate.
I really enjoyed those Commando booklets. They were great.
I think may of us could lay down the standard template then just colour it in.
e.g. The hero is a maverick or has some special physical attribute such as 3 arms.
martin :)
Sad news - thanks for sharing, Les.
I remember having my Commando books confiscated and torn up in front of me in class... So I guess they must have been more educational than Biology :D

Outrage Simon.
You lost "Captain Steel's adventures behind enemy lines".
Teachers huh >:(
martin :)
It's OK - I was borrowing my friend's comic books, now I come to think of it :)
I may have said "whoops - sorry..."

It must also feature Germans saying "actung schweinhund" and Japanese (in thick jam jar bottom specs) saying "Aieeeee!" and " banzai! "
Neil ☺
Many moons ago I spent a fortnight in the Austria mountains with no language other than the German that Commando had taught me. I can't recall how useful "achtung schweinhund", "achtung Spitfire" etc were.
