Title: Panzerkampfwagen B2 (F) 740 Flammpanzer
Post by: Traffic on January 28, 2022, 12:30:27 PM
Panzerkampfwagen B2 (F) 740 Flammpanzer from the PP Char B1 kit

Stage 1 - Clean up

The pack contains six white metal pieces. Two tracks, hull, rear plate, turret and gun with mantlet.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg8IBePwGpjNDmhUmMS69oEkJqx7fSYW7qGRdQJaZ74UFv8hWQCnSPdH_FCKiEq7ll_-tjemMmoHvMWsUD9zMLcfOinVqqBV0tEAaTe0QTqK1gvTpjJ4o9qKNEP5UOPRFrN1knUFp3CQS1Dj-ChKP4H75eiyb-kuYJummrLyonQfYMyz4zeq69smQsR=s4032)

To give the tracks something to hold onto I decided to fill in the void.  This would also give me some stability from any rough handling
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh_9grR4WXCLMKk1AnrCm1RzU8sCjCu6466UPntsZz3pMpZkN9cS13dHQnr9s9YG0x68kzmNS48yY1HNrG5mPnrYprv6XEXjXDC2Lnw13FQw5enc1UncesfARLPv9NDOnREN9PaspSoPgmS3UG2X0waq41MMYpxOYifX8FnyIwG_ii2k05CtYdw4tIY=s4032)

With the packing in place a liberal application of milliput was applied to the hull and I also filled in the void areas at the rear of the tracks.  This should provide a surface to secure the track sections to the hull.  I also filled in any joins between the rear plate and the hull.

More to follow as this is now off to cure properly before sanding and the next mods

Due to the restrictions in moulding the section around the gun is filled in. I need to remove the 75mm and replace the gun and fit a FT nozzle so I cut the whole block out.  I will replace the drive shaft with plastic rod later on

The tracks are just a little too long for the hull.  Nothing I can do to fix that other than position them so it is not too noticable at the front or rear.  Anyway.  Tracks on.

Fuel tank designed and printed. This is just a dry fit to check it looks okay. Will need a bit of filler to fit properly due to the tolerances in the metal from the sanding and fitting.

Not going to do any more to this now other than to add some stowage. Grey undercoat now on and then onto the painting and weathering stage once this cures overnight.

That's an interesting hybrid of traditional casting and 3D printing. I'm looking forward to seeing how this novel project turns out!

And some plasticard, and greenstuff and miliput....:)

The only pieces that are 3D printed is the fuel tank and the drive shaft.

Did a bit of post shading but you can't really see it now that the camo is going on.  Too much pressure on one spot on the fuel tank which will need to be fixed with some stowage or a repaint.  Another couple of hours drying. Do the tracks and then give this a satin coat before some panel lining and weathering.

Having an aircupboard does improve the drying speed.
Satin Varnish dry so can get the panel lines done

Yes. I use a lighter colour than most people and use a dark grey enamel wash (AK Wash for Afrika Korps vehicles). It isn't as stark as some colours. Leave to dry for at least 10 minutes and then clean up with odorless thinners.

Nearly, nearly there. I haven't made the hatches yet or found a command figure.  But good enough to put on the table in the meantime.  Radio aerial and tool details to follow once this has a coat of matt varnish.

No filter, and no overall wash. Panel lines, rivets etc only and an oil fade I left the oil fade for the streaking as well as I didn't want to overdo things
