Title: Barbarians
Post by: Moggy on January 09, 2022, 10:43:38 PM
That's the first unit done (for C&K) of the Barbarians. A little too "Conan the Barbarian" but they will do. I don't want my Germanic tribes to look too civilised or Saxon anyway!

Suprisingly easy to paint.

yes i was in Newcastle for @ 9 months in 90/91, never known a place so adverse weather wise. it was like a 9month version of Get Carter lol. A lad like me from the cote d'souf londres requires sight of the sun now and then.

I left for Cornwall in 1991; I seem to remember the last couple of winters being very cold and snowy.
Went somewhere where it rains for 6 months of the year..........!

Finally done apart from a spray of hairspray.

The foot

The Mounted

Thats the following units

14 Close Order
7 Auxillery
6 Skirmisher
6 Cavalry
4 Mounted Skirmishers
4 Elephants
3 Artillery

Just totalled it up. If all are Trained and shielded (where applicable) that is a total of 568 points.  So with upgrades well able to field 2 armies, either together for a LARGE game or against each other.

I hope you're going to comb their hair first? Their mops do look a bit unruly...

They may have wild unruly hair but they all have a slogan....."Don't call me Shirley!".     For any youngsters out there google it!

This will be my it can be anything army. After all most of the ancient "civilised" nations all thought that anyone not from there were Barbarians, especially for the Romans. This is what the people from "wherever" look like in their minds-eye.  :)

In case anyone is wondering they are all Kallistra so slightly smaller than the norm for 15mm. All were easy to paint apart from the horse cavalry (not the bison cavalry) which were a pain in the *** due to excess flash in very hard to reach places.

Altogether that is 16 packs of troops.  I did have one pack of foot archers but they were based on a strip of 4 but the bows were attached to the backs of the guy in front. Made it impossible to separate. Overall good quality mouldings and worth the price especially with their 6 packs for the price of 5 deal.
