FM 58 has just gone out.
This will/should be the final edition.
It will then go into "picture" mode.
That means the ex time it is seen will be in the final print version :-\
thanks
martin :)
That's a pretty bold set of statements, Martin :D
Well done for getting so far with both the rules and the figures. Maybe its strapline should be "The Covid lockdown ruleset"?
I look forward to perusing FM 58.
Simon
Les and Simon have both done a massive amount of work. I am very grateful to all playtestser.
martin :)
A few comments:
Concepts – I'd leave out the detail
P6 1915 heading different colour
P8 – highlight should be blue?
P9 is blank – formatting glitch has left empty page
P11 – "Players should note" formatting looks it goes off the page
P12-13 Casualty markers section appears twice
P19 – "Players need to imagine an additional column along each table flank." Could I suggest adding 'of squares' for additional clarity?
P21 Could I suggest Machine Guns instead of MG
P35 – "Note: the scenery brought along..." Again formatting looks strange. It might also be clearer to say "Both players contribute to providing the scenery for the game. Note that not all of it will be used and that pieces may be placed by either player, not necessarily by the player who brought them."
P38 – I like the 'one touch' rule; much simpler.
P47 etc – I like the addition of the 'expiry section' throughout.
P49 – no dynamite trains – Booo!!
P71 – "All the scenery brought along by the players will be used." It won't as both players bring 16 partial and only a total of 20 will be used.
P83 – worth adding 'no re-rolls' after d6 for proximity squares (for clarity) ?
P99 – Casualties. Could I check my understanding here. It seems possible that casualties may fall into enemy hands (bases retreat from a square and cannot move all the casualties they may carry). It thus becomes impossible to treat those casualties by spending action points. Do the casualties then remain with the enemy and contribute to a morale problem – "Ay caramba! Poor Martino, he was like a brother to me and now he is captured and the enemy who will treat him horribly!"
P100 – depiction of casualty bases is covered on p11
P104 – if a fall backer is killed is this after or before he may take a casualty with him?
Brian
Some good spots Brian, some are deliberate, some are mistakes.
The imaginary squares on each flank are great for the figures to fall onto the floor from the imaginary column as they are not on the table.
It will all change again when the pictures and diagrams are added!
So the big question is : "When do you (finally) publish ? And an equally big question : "Are you doing a hard copy or is it PDF only ?" (I think it deserves a hard copy after all of the waiting).
Hello Tony
Pertinent question I agree.
There will be a print run.
Probably only 150.
The printer is all lined up.
The rules will be 150 pages.
Usually PP coloured covers and greyscale insides.
This coming weekend (WWW) will be the end test date. then another week to get photos done and shoudl be over by christmas (I have head that somewhere before ???)
Fingers crossed
martn :)
Excellent ! If you're only doing a limited run can I pre-order ? Call me a dinosaur but I much prefer "the real thing" 😁
Hello Tony
There will be pre order but I do not think even 150 sets will sell out.
150 should last 3 months at least. If it were a skirmish set it would sell out on day 1.
martin :)
Never understood the appeal of skirmish, the bigger the battle the better 😁 Well I look forward to publication,
Take Care,
Tony.
Thanks Tony.
Skirmish is low cost low commitment ; which I think is the appeal?
martin
hi Les,
I suspect that the imaginary squares with the figures on work on the same basis as Wille Cayote keeps on running until he realises he's over a chasm. So, just keep imagining those squares, don't doubt them...
Brian
The of table mounted are in fact placed on table.
Their pacing is indicative of their off table status.
The placing is along the edge in a row facing into the table.
This is obviously a real and major problem if the table is only 5ft!
One option (albeit mentally complex) is to use the off table areas on their base edge as a rotation of the off table squares on the flank edges.
i.e From the table corner.
Flank square 1 bases are placed in base edge square 1.
Flank square 2 bases are placed in base edge square 2.
Flank square 3 bases are placed in base edge square 3.
Flank square 4 bases are placed in base edge square 4.
Flank square 5 bases are placed in base edge square 5.
Flank square 6 bases are placed in base edge square 6.
I did say it was very complex :) Sorry
martin :)
Martin, I have decided to explore a new avenue based on your reply to my reply ! I've never seen the appeal of the skirmish game BUT I have decided to give it a go ! I don't know if you have seen the Partizan "La Cucaracha" rules for Mexican Revolution skirmishes but I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a set 🤔 (but I'm still getting FfM when it hits the press).
Take Care,
Tony.

Very much so- but also if one is dependent on public transport skirmish games are a boon
