Title: Vertical Rules Version
Post by: Moggy on October 19, 2021, 05:12:18 PM
Working on getting this ready to play on my magnetic board and had to make a few compromises already.

Scale - I can get the number of zones on the board at 6x 4.5 inches per box. Not sure how this is going to go with fitting max 4 units per box plus possibly a general, artillery piece, extra skirmisher unit plus possibly an Elephant so going to have to experiment with this a little.#

Counters

After the fun and games and lack of counters being clear enough to see at a glance I have decided to make my own images. Once I got going was quite fun and easy.

No prizes given for what people guess this is!

Decided that if I kept it generic I can field any armies I wished.

Also came to the conclusion that I need to have these mounted in units of 3 rather than singles. Once the units are coated in selotape/fablon lost bases can be crossed off with a non-permanent pen so less book-keeping.  Also having the details of the unit underneath (yet again with a line of Elite/Vet/Trained/Levy then underneath that Armd/Sh/Bow/Shock) I don't need any extra paperwork.

Next step is to actually make up some units to see how they fit. Will let you know.

Cheers

Had a change of plan and realised i had been making things far too hard for myself.

Why was I sticking paper to card then magnetising stuff.   I have a laminator. so re-done the counters for C&K.

Here is a line up ready for battle (no specific army)

or, with the change of a few counters a biblical army

I think these will be ideal for someone wanting to find out of they like the period especially if, like me they have no room for a full scale gaming table.

Simply pint onto different coloured card, laminate, cut out, stick magnet on back and hey presto.

I have attached the spreadsheet for  C&K army. Feel free to print and use as you see fit guys.

I don't, for one moment, suggest this will or should replace figures. I love the feel, look of them, painting them (or not), hoarding them, storing them in boxes, moving the boxes, moving the boxes again and again. Whats not to like!

Martin, feel free to include at the back of the rules should you wish. No fee involved.

Now the challenge........   Can you do something similiar for another period/ruleset.   Only rules are keep it simple and generic, try to have most required info present to reduce external markers.  There are some period I have rarely gamed and don't want to go to the time/expense of buying another metal mountain.

Well, that works well Derek.
Nice professional  work.
It is great to try out rules first to see if they are of any interest.  Good.
