Title: Minairons 1937 Chevrolet AAC preview
Post by: Lluis of Minairons on October 01, 2021, 09:27:07 PM
Once back from a short vacation in my beloved Pyrenees range, I'm happy to share some preliminary views on what is going to be our next Spanish Civil War AFV release, both in 1:100th and 1:72nd scales - the ubiquitous 1937 Chevrolet armoured car!

Very nice, I must invest in some SCW vehicles soon.
As a side note I see you have brought out the Condour Legion flags.
So I will in the near future be sending off for a few bits and pieces.

Great models Lluis , do you have any information on how many were used by each side and in which campaigns they were used ?

Entering service in April 1937, Chevrolet AACs saw action in Catalonia and Valencia in numbers around 70 to 90.
After the republican front line was split into two, those remaining in Catalonia were gradually pushed toward the french border; during the catalonian front collapse, their crews chose to cross the border, in order to prevent their AFVs to be captured by the nationalists.

Apparently, France took over some 30 of these Chevrolet AACs, just storing them at first. However, the outbreak of WW2 made them to press them into front service. Few were damaged, actually, due to the quick french collapse face to the german blitzkrieg, so Germany being capable to take over most of them in turn.

They were reassigned to the East Front, with second line security duties at first. However, the brutal stagnation in Moscow battle forced the germans to press their Chevrolets into front line, where many of them were soon knocked down.

Reportedly some were reassigned to the spanish Blue Division - and didn't last too long, either.

Lots of info about at Tanks Encyclopaedia: https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/spain/AAC-1937.php

Lluís
