I took a trip south to stay with Martin for a night and play some games. What is normally a liesurely 4 hour drive listening to an audio book turned into a seven and a half hour marathon of diversions, accidents and slow traffic.
Still, Martin was as ever a gracious host and after a nice tea we settled down to a game of AK47. Martin was using his newly painted End of Days army against my newly painted People's Popular Front.
I won't go into too much detail of the army lists or how the battle played out. I struggled on the 15 Days to War, winning only one day and ended up defending a full blown assault.
My one highlight was my unit of armoured cars destroying two of Martins tanks in one turn. I did manage to use an RPG to blow up one of Martins trucks carrying his unit of professionals, who calmly jumped out uninjured and promptly shot up my Militia.
A fun game, blowing off cobwebs, and getting used to the mechanics again, and learning how to use a ruler.

I'll report on our games of Fighting for Mexico tomorrow.
Hi Sean,
Nice photos, both new armies look good on the table top.
Which mat were you playing on?
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Ouch, that is one horrendous journey. Glad you made it OK and were still able to fit in your games.
Simon
Martin may be able to correct me, but I think it was the one from Battlefront which is double sided. We were less interested in aesthetics, more how to play the game! Hence blank mdf templates. Interestingly, it didn't impact on our enjoyment of the game.
Martin seemed to have morale boosts coming out of his ears.
I entirely forgot about the reroll of the NOBTS, and won only a movement bonus from the 15D2W. Which I also forgot about 🤔😂🤣
Looks like a great game my friend 👍🙂
Good post Sean
The pictures allow discussion to makes sense.
Sean gave me some very good games.
Plenty of to and fro in those games.
The mat is indeed the flames of war mat.
It is nice and heavy with a sheen surface.
I did not remind Sean about his special rule because it is the winning that matters at all costs( :))
We learned a lot about the game.
I had forgotten it all.
The table was the biggest i have played on for many a year. 6foot, phew!
The counters I made were very bold but did the job well I feel. I will make 5 or so sets for all the games at the AK day.
Players do need to have a special tray for their re inforcements so that they do not get mixed up with dead etc.
Thank you to Sean for a good games weekend.
martin :)
As it is so long ago since I played AK a lot of the rules might benefit from the newer RFCM ideas we have introduced.
Much as i would like to start on a new edition straight away, Sean and Stewart held me back. Wise council.
On the saucepan at the moment will be PBI 2020 and FM
martin :)
Thanks for kindly offering to prepare markers for us all, Martin. I had started preparing a bunch of your special figures, but won't now get around to finishing them (maybe for next year's event...?). Your laminated coloured markers worked very well last weekend, and should be clear for all players.
