Title: Peter Pig boxed sets- the future
Post by: martin goddard on August 14, 2021, 05:08:43 PM
A short note about what is happening with boxed sets.

There will be boxed sets, but  different to those before.

Each box set will only be on sale for  approximately 10 weeks.
A PP boxed set will include enough troops for a single army for an RFCM game. Alternatively it might be a special pack of buildings or vehicles.

It will include bases and probably some special "box set only" items.
There might be one or two boxed sets on sale at any one time.

Here is an example of how it goes
1. Gosh, new boxed set. Special features include.....
2. Box set on sale for September and October 2021.
3. Then it is no more.
This way we can assemble 4 boxed sets and process them effectively.

This begs the question " why not have a big selection of boxed sets always available?"

1.Boxed sets use a lot of labour time.  i.e more than just assembling an order for packs.
2. Customers often want to change the contents about.
3. When prices change the box sets need re-calculating.
4.Box sets can cause a lot of discussion about the contents and the reasoning for them. Fine, but the contents might have been determined 2 years prior and memory is not available.
5. Assembled box sets often sit there for a very long time and end up being taken apart.

My next project after Mexico.

I have read a book on it so consider myself somewhat of an expert.

Would it be any easier to advertise the PP boxed sets, specify 'no changes allowed' and make them up only when ordered?? (nb - I have no experience of fig. marketing, so this is just off the top of my head)

Also emphasise that they are cheaper than buying individual packs (I assume that is so?).
