A week today, a group of us are refighting Bosworth twice. The new interpretation of the Battle means we only need 3 key terrain pieces. A few bits of scatter to make it look more natural are needed too.
Inspired by Martin Buck's use of dinner table plate mats, which just happen to be the right size for Bloody Barons templates, I set to work. Initially I am making 2 gentle hills and 2 marshes. If I get time I will build another 2 gentle hills before next weekend.
The old place mats ready for use.

For the hills, I found some old white polystyrene packaging in the garage rafters which I cut to size and stuck down with hot glue.

When my mother in law moved house a few weeks ago, she was throwing out a large tub of tile grout which I rescued. It's great for scenery as it dries very hard and is ready coloured. Mixed with water, you can get just the consistency you need. I think I've enough to last a lifetime! I eared this on, sealing the edges where the polystyrene met the place mat first then working towards the summit.

I then dampened my spreading tool (a tongue depressor) and smoothed over the grout.

For the marshes, I've taken a sheet of clear acetate and painted one side with a greeny brown mix then stuck it down to the place mat before adding grout to the perimeter, again sealing down the edges. The painted acetate is stuck down shiny side up amd gives a very quick and pleasing impression of water. I've used this method for 6mm streams and it's very effective.

I'll add static grass to the marsh to make it look like very boggy ground, with the water showing through the grass in numerous places. Iay add a removable tree or two and some bushes here and there.
The hills will now be washed in places, dry rushed then the grass added. As they are gentle hills, I won't be leaving much earth showing but intend to add a Bush or two and also maybe somewhere for a removable tree.
Hopefully more tomorrow!
Looks good Sean, are you in panic mode yet?
Thanks for the progress updates, Sean. I must say, you have improved those table mats no end. Some things from the Seventies should be forgotten forever!
Simo
Les,
Not at all. Be finished tomorrow or Tuesday I expect.
Simon,
They are blooming awful! But I may pop into a couple of charity shops after work tomorrow and see if I can find any more!
