Players will be split into two teams - Government/loyalist forces and Rebel/Seperatists. Over the course of the day, whichever side scores the most victory points will win power!
N. B.
We may be able to get more tables if there is enough players to fill them, so if you end up on the initial reserve list, you're probably fine to still come and play.
Thinking about other possibles who typically show interest in these things...
Weymouth contingent: Chris C, Big Mike, Les BT
Burton: Simon C, Ray, Dene? Any Burton club members interested, I can come down on a Tuesday or Thursday to run a demo.
Sean, can I suggest you put the date and location in the title or first post of this thread so potential participants aren't having to search for information.
You can change my status to definite, well as definite as anything is except death and taxes. ;D
I found a Brixcon special figure the other day along with a participation piggie.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Done Martin.
I have the Piggie figure. One of my favourites! I really enjoyed Brixcon, though I rarely troubled the scorers, as it were! My first ever game of AK47 was against Ken Natt using a Martian Army with giant Tripods. :D
Sean, I too languished at the bottom of the table. I remember Ken Natt from the Friday evening Hammerin' Iron games.
I found the small tables changed the game quite a bit, we used to play on our club 8x5 ft tables so we used more motorised units.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Hello Sean, would you count me in? Sounds great and will get the painting done(!) to finish up and get a complete force on the table.
General Leeroy and the Campaign Alliance Levy look forward to doing battle...
All the best
Jim
I will use my British Desert Army. I ll tell what army they are ?
Somebody needs to bring these So called African Warlords to Justice, not sure if it's an oil/diamonds backed corporation or Government backed or a properly sanctioned UN type force yet ? I will look at the options and come back on that ? AC130 Helicopter Gunship is ready to fly ? ( got to mend it first, lack of maintenance ! I dropped it !!!)
Miles
Do we know roughly what year we are set in ? Or decade ?
My chaps seem to be caught in the first Iraq war still ???
Miles
Modern day Miles, so anything goes!
Jim
You're in and welcome! Let me know which army type you're intending to use. Nothing that can't be changed later, but we're looking for as wide a spread as possible across the 15 available.
Army number 3. Colonial Settlers Army. GOB. Grumpy Old Brits.
Might even get backed up by the British Government via some back door ?old British Surplice equipment ? SGT Garvey and Red Troop might make an appearance, along with an odd famous person or two ? ITV to the rescue ? As they happen to be on-an "exercise" just nearby ?
You never know in these troubled times ?????
I do have a "local" tribe type army available if anyone is struggling ? With regulars and local militia...
Miles
Sean,
I will opt for army #10 - Hereditary Benign Dictatorship, please.
Simon
All, please spread word about this event. I'd love to have a full 16 names down and a reserve list. Hammy at Battlefield indicated that there could be more tables available so the more sign ups the better.
Mention it to club mates, pub mates, at the school PTA meeting and the Chirch fete. Let's get the buzz going!
For equipment dates it is 1950 to 1990 with the average being 1970.
Plenty of Russian, French and British equipment.
French and British due to colonial links.
Russian because they like to get in on any conflict (proxy Cuba etc).
No US equipment.
martin :)
Hi Sean, I may be up for this, but at present I have a few obstacles in the way.
1. I don't have the rules.
2. I've never played AK47. I haven't even played AK46.
3. I'm not sure if I have an army as I don't have the rules, so I can't tell what figures would be suitable.
4. I'm on holiday and I don't have my diary/calendar with me, so I don't know if I am free.
On that basis you can probably count me in. I will order a set of rules from some shady bloke in Weymouth and see what turns up.
On the plus side, I do know where Daventry is.
Cheers
John
HI John,
Knowing where Daventry is meets the sole requirement for entry. All the rest is optional.
There are plenty of spare armies although don't let stop you buying your own. You can source figures from the same place as the AK47 Reloaded rules. I hear they're quite nice.
As for AK46, they were rubbish. They used WRG base sizes and you'd get +1 for AK47 armed foot v Elephants. Seemed a bit unfair to me.
I'll add you to the list as a definite maybe.
Sean,
Really not sure about this. Should I wait for Martin to bring out AK48 later this year?
Mike
AK48 is not out until the day before the games Mike.
It will only change the shooing , movement and morale rules though.
Possibly introduce the use of D9 dice too.
Just road bumps (?)
John, as October is so far away I am sure we can get together for a couple of games.
Maybe Miles can be imposed upon to host?
martin :)
Mike,
I've managed to pick up a top secret draft of AK49 which was accidentally left at a bus stop. It involves flying saucers as well as D9's. I wouldn't touch it with a swagger stick.
Shall I add you to the list? Just Dorchester Bede (Chris) to rope in and it'll be nearly a full house!
I ve already sent an invention to John to use and maybe burrow the whole or part of an Army , and to play a few games too ? Possibly might be able to persuade Martin over and refresh his mind on how to play the game ?
Now my Palm trees are nearly done I have plenty of trees for the scenery ? Might have re done some scenery pieces now I have more appropriate grasses and paints for Mediterranean/African/Mexico type areas.
Miles
uMbongo has a wide range of of terrain from tropical jungle to arid and dry savanna. From urban to rural. From coastal to Highlands. Something for everyone!
That's good to know, Sean.
And presumably the country - even if it no longer appears in Lonely Planet guides - features a variety of architecture: from tribal huts and adobe blocks in the desert, to houses on stilts in the jungle, to Colonial-style edifices in the big cities too?
Simon

Sean,
Yes please add me to "zah lizst".
I am recruiting a band of old but tough soldiers of fortune.
Mike
You have that Richard Burton look Mike, with a 'Stirling' thrown over the shoulder your well away.
Need to find an old Dakota for the jungle get away over the border.
Remember if your caught you have gone to watch a footie match and got lost. COYS
Dave
And if you miss the flight home, we'll obviously have to shoot you...
Simon
Julian,
That is a powerful clip - you can be in charge of discipline if you like.
I have met a few blokes from Belgium..... they can kick a football as well.
Sadly, most of them have left Tottenham, eh Dave?
Mike
Sean can I put down a good friend of mine.
Neil Houlton (TBC) should know for sure in the next few days. So if you could pencil him in please ?
He is a man of the cloth, but at the moment his diary is free, but he has to check with his good lady etc.
Many thanks
Miles
Brilliant Miles. The response so far is way beyond my expectations!
Congratulations to you, Sean, in generating so much interest.
With all this Covid misery, I think we must all have realised that we needed a good old-fashioned coup to spice things up a bit!
Simon
I think it shows the strength of the forum to be honest. And it's great to see some new names.
Now, when's Crete? 😊
If Neil is a man of the cloth his troops should be well turned out.
Mike don't get me started on Spurs. Belgians or not, I can't believe that we haven't appointed a new manager yet. I suspect that there is poison in the air down White Hart Lane.

Dave
I have to agree with Simon, well done Sean, I am excited about it and I am not even taking part.
Dave
Hi everyone,
I can't join you, however, I will play a solo game on the Day... ;D
The original rules, as I am not a counter revolutionary, like the rest of you ;D
Howard
I am not a counter revolutionary I am a free man and a revisionist. ;D
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Sounds like a call to arms is needed to resolve the situation.
Sean,
One question for your to resolve from the archives, who was the former colonial power of our benighted African country?
Mike
Sean
Sorry to be so late to the party, have been away on my hols - I have kept up with what has been going on but couldn't remember my log in! an age thing perhaps? Now thanks to track and trace I have had to return early to self isolate for four days, have taken a lateral flow test which is is negative :) so just a case of waiting around until 2359hrs on Friday.
I do have an AK47 army but can't for the life of me remember what it is though as I have not used it since the 'competition' Oxford way a long time ago (10 years?). I will have to dig it out to have a look, I do know it is an 'African' army with a lot of militia some regulars but none of those nasty professionals a couple of tanks but I am not sure what else. I do remember the 'competition' was good fun and not a competition at all. I lost both games - I think we played solo in the morning and doubles in the afternoon. I also remember Miles's helicopter causing me no end of problems, sorry challenges.
On the downside my current shift pattern has me working on Saturday 9 October however that is some way off and life on the border may have changed by October . Put me down as a possibly, maybe, you never know :'(.
Chris
Cheers Chris. We need to revive our on table rivalry! Not sure we've ever played AK47 though 😃 I'll put you on the list.

Sean,

Mike
The colonial history of uMbongo is a long and complicated one. Originally colonised by the Belgians under the rule of Leopold, it was 'sold' to the British in a long forgotten diplomatic deal that saw the Belgians numerous artefacts from the British museum.
In the 1880's, Britain then clashed with France over mining rights on what was then the border with Logosia to the north. For a time, France laid claim to around 50% of the land mass and wanting to avoid a colonial war with a European friend during the ongoign campaign in the Sudan, the British government conceded territory they saw little value in retaining.
Post the Great War, France gave up any claims to the land which reverted entirely to British rule, until independance in the 1950's. The history of exploitation of its natural resources by the colonial powers is a sad but familiar one. Evidence of the colonial rule of Belguim, Britian and France is still evident to this day. French is the most commonly spoke language in the country. Architecture remains in place, and in some cases remarkably intact, showing the opulence and grandeur of the era. The Presidents palace in Kalubya is a great example.
What an intriguing country, Sean.
Some of the chaps are thinking of booking a short holiday in uMbongo to take in the local culture and enjoy the architecture.
Mike
If they stick to the coastal regions they should be fine. Inland is slightly more risky though 😂
Mike, my friend Field Marshal Lord General the Earl of San Serriffe was telling me only last week of his most excellent holiday in Umbongo. He told me it is genuinely a banana republic as he has personally seen the banana. Also he enjoyed the public executions or he would have done if the firing squads had been trained to shoot straight. By the time the elite palace guard had reloaded their weapons the Umbongo Freedom Fighters (UFF) had untied their restraints and fled. Fortunately the presidential feast at Maceedees made up for it.
Cheers
John
Must admit it sounds like you could be watching a BBC program "Death in Paradise" with the French and British influence, near to the fishing village ?
Miles
I think the next episode of Death in Paradise is due to be filmed there.
John,
The UFF live to fight another day. Long live the banana! Their freedom cry of "Down with capatilism and the Quarter Pounder" resounds around the streets of Kalabya 😊
I'll add this to the original post, but I'm not sure if modifying a post lets other people know it's been modified! But Hammy at Battlefield Hobbies will be adding the AK day to his events calendar in the next few days. He will also be handling payment through the Battlefield Hobbies website, similar to the Square Bashing days.
The link will be in the original post of this thread, but is here also!
https://www.battlefieldhobbies.co.uk/ (https://www.battlefieldhobbies.co.uk/)
I can officially announce that Geek Villain are supporting the AK day. They are providing a gaming mat in a suitably dusty African style that we will use on the day.
Once we finish, a lucky participant will be walking away with it! On entering the competition on the day you will be given a raffle ticket. If your number is drawn - it's yours!
Also, Geek Villain will be providing a 10% discount to all participants closer to the day of the event. Watch this space for more details.
https://geekvillain.co.uk/ (https://geekvillain.co.uk/)
That's great news, Sean. I've just been to their site, and they do some nice stuff.
I realise this isn't relevant for AK47, but have you had any discussions with them about adding grids / dots, to make them more directly suitable for other PP rulesets, and thus the wider audience of this Forum?
Simon

Hi Sean - put me down for Colonial Settlers please?
But if that's already bagged let me know and will have a think. Have just had a copy of the Reloaded rules delivered and it's quite a different game to the original I''ve played previously, sure I'll get my head round it though :D
A geek villain mat would be very nice.
Being 6x3 makes the AK table very different.
I would find it too difficult to use a 6x4 and ignore a 1ft strip (psychologically not physically).
martin :)
Martin, for the purposes of the day, it will stay as a 6x4 mat and marked off so we have a 6x3 playing area. A piece of masking tape down one side is easy enough to apply. Then whoever wins the mat can choose what to do with it afterwards.
Simon, I've not asked specifically about grids, but they are currently unable to do sizes other than those offered.
Although several mats are showing as out of stock, they tell me they are reprinting today and all mats will be available for sale as of tomorrow.
Jimmy,
Miles has opted for Colonial Settlers. Have a look at the others. If it is none take your fancy, it's not a problem. It would be nice to have all the armies/factions/warbands (😜) represented, but if we get 16 or more players, there will have to doubles of some armies anyway.
Here is the mat that will be raffled off.
(https://i.postimg.cc/8fBTy109/Rocky-Grass-Battle-Mat-900x.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/8fBTy109)
My intention is to make a custom set of scenery to match the mat. This scenery will be part of the prize too.
that's a great offer Sean, thanks for making a great day out what ever the result

Ah - it's all there in the first post isn't it... White Colonialists then? How's that - really looking forward to this!
Excellent link. I've started to add pictures from everyone and their posts to the blog - though the text is appearing wierd. No time to sort it at the moment.
Payment option is now up on the Battlefield Hobbies link in the first post of this thread.
I can't seem to link to the actual event, just the Event homepage, so you'll have to scroll through to October where our day is listed.
Those who have said they are coming, please grab you tickets ASAP to show to Battlefield that this is a valid event. They have allocated 20 tickets to us, so plenty of room for everyone 😊
Thanks Sean, done!
Have you bought your own ticket? :)
Simon
Ah smashing, ticket booked!
Booked. Now just need to try to get an army together and get a game or five done before then :)
Derek
Wonderful chaps, thank you. It gives some reassurance to the shop that we will actually turn up on the day 😂
Bought my ticket, Grumpy Old Brits (GOB) are on their way to War....
Miles
Is that the name of the players who are attending Miles 😂🤣😅
Sean,
Yes there are lots of Grumpy Old Men booking! >:(Just done it....
Mike
I will book my ticket next week once I know if others are travelling with me.
martin :)
Yes chivvy along the old guard Martin. Maybe coerce Nigel or Mike into coming?!
This could be the world's biggest AK47 Reloaded event. I'll need to find a number for Norris McWhirter.
Kurtz looks suitably "alternative" - I love the Zulu-style shields in the back of the technicals too!
Simon
Looking good, Julian!
In other news, 7 tickets gone, technically 13 left! This could be big.
Booked mine at tea-time and I'm planning to stay overnight in Northampton Friday and Saturday and go to Partizan on Sunday, anyone else doing the same? Looking forward to it.
Just need to get in some practice games before October,
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
I'll be at Partizan on the Sunday, but travelling both days. But it'll be good to see you there Martin!
Hi all,
I have had a rethink and I will do my Solo game using Reloaded. Just thinking about the two armies I will need to field. I think I will have place an order with arms dealer...
As I would like to keep within the spirit of the day, are there going to be an particular restrictions or special rules?
My only problem, is my table is 4'x4', so I will have to revise the layout / arrivals etc.
Howard
Howard,
Not at the moment, but I will keep you within the circle of trust as to what's what.
A 4x4 is only 2 feet² short of the full Reloaded table, so maybe just drop 1 scenery piece per side. I'd personally play as written, using the extra width for manoeuvre.
If we come up with any changes I'll let you know.
Julian
Thank you for your ideas. I have not played, Reloaded, so real world experance, is always very helpful.
Howard
Afternoon chaps.
Some housekeeping. We have had 2 drop outs for the AK day which isn't a problem. I estimate we have 9 definites with a couple of other TBC.
If you're a member of a club, or visit other forums or social media outlets, can you ask around for interested parties who might like to come? There will be spare armies for those without. We are just over 6 weeks away, so anyone who hasn't paid yet please do so - the link is in the original post.
The big day is just 5 weeks on Saturday.
How are people's plans going?
Is your army done?
Are you bringing any special terrain?
What is the name of your General and army?
I will ask that all players submit their army list to me for verification by the uMbongan Statistics Department. Anyone found to be in breach of the stipulated rules will be forced to eat jelly babies all day.
On aore serious note, please continue to plug and push the day. If we get into double figures for the number of players I will be overjoyed.
So spread the word. Press gang, pursaude, bribe and cajole any gaming friends you have. There are plenty of armies to share out to those who don't have them.
Long Live Chumbo!
Long Live Mbongo
All Hail the Goat!
Hi all
well apart from not having any person to person gaming experience playing the rules its fine. Still need to get a few more terrain pieces done.
The UmBongon (umBondoen?) National Recovery Force led by that gallant, but oftimes confused veteran, Gen M'Windi has a vast selection of troops at his disposal. Maybe too many choices to make. At present he is undergoing a mental crisis and need to make he will chance his luck in the great gamble that is internal strife as either an Exiled or religious (radical environmentalist) entry to the lists.
Hard to make those choices without game time experience. Will probably just trust to the luck of the gods and toss a coin.
I will be bringing all the items I have shown pictures of on the forum plus hopefully a few more if time and inspiration permit.
Derek
Sean,
The Logosian forces are classified as a Hereditary Benign Dictatorship Army (although the "Benign" bit rather depends on one's point of view, and from which end of a crocodile you're considering things...).
They are ably (?) led by President General "Papa Whisky" A. GoGo.
Information on the Logosian military establishment is classified as a state secret, so will be transmitted to you by alternative means. Which may of course self-destruct on receipt.
Simon
Sean,
Construction is well underway of uMbongo's secondary airport known as Schorndorf Airfield. It is located near Lake Hobee in Ramba Province.
The Commander of a mixed force of Militia and Professionals is poised across the border in Legosia to move his men swiftly to take the airfield and secure a person of high importance to external business interests.
Time is of the essence as a Mossad hit squad has been rumoured to be in the country ready to strike at our targeted individual.
We are now under a strict communication blackout as we prepare to move.
Mike
Mike,
I'm not sure clear as to whether your sources are either geographically or orthographically challenged, but I feel sure that Papa Whisky would object strongly (and probably snappily :)) ) to any foreign forces on Logosian sovereign territory).
Simon
Simon,
The Papa person will have to find us first!
Mike
Hobee City sounds nice?
Mike
And all the while Martin (or is it Derek?) Chumbo sits smoking his Cuban on a verandah looking out at his fleet of Ferraris and wonders where did it all go wrong?!
I'm sure there will be plenty of casualties in 5 weeks' time...
Simon
OK chaps, I have begun a Social Media campaign across Facebook and Twitter advertising this event.
We haven't had any new sign ups for a while, so I'm setting the target of just 2 new players between now and the event.
If your son, daughter, mother, brother, aunt, uncle or grandparents show any interest - encourage them to give it a go.
Likewise, next time you're down at your club, spread the word. AK47 doesn't bite. That's just Papa Whiskey's crocodiles. Get them interested and sign them up.
Start your own social media campaigns now. Flood your feeds with news from uMbongo and what a great day we will be having.
Tell them how historic Daventry is - King Charles stopped there on his way to the Battle of Naseby!
uMbongo NEEDS you! 2 more players! ( we have more than enough for a good day already, but more would be nice!)
And if you haven't purchased your ticket yet, please do so. It helps when it comes to organising food.
Attendees
Please note the schedule is now up on the first page with time of arrival, timing for games and packing up.
Thanks Sean - it's good to have this all so organised so well in advance.
I'm looking forward to meeting some new faces, during a game of fun, friendly gaming.
Simon
Thats great Sean
Never having been to that venue before can I ask about parking. Dont fancy lugging boxes of stuff from local NCP even though I do have a trolley.
Cheers
Derek
Derek,
Parking looks to be right outside the door:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Daventry+NN11+4PH/@52.2498533,-1.1535773,163m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x487716162232e64b:0x3260a0fb6a642012!8m2!3d52.2501675!4d-1.1520095
I think it might be a new location for them (or maybe they've just taken on more space where there were before) - certainly it was previously very easy to park in front and lug one's stuff inside.
Simon
Yes plenty of parking at the venue. I think it's on an industrial estate out of town, so shouldn't be a problem.
I took the train up there once. The taxi fare to/from the station cost more than the rail ticket, I believe...
Simon
Julian,
Well done - great news!
I don't know what's up with you and Sean and all this forward planning, though - I'm sure it'll never catch on... :D
Simon
Julian
There may be a kind soul who could collect you from the station. Ensure you wear a red carnation in your button hole.
Viva uMbongo!
I have checked with Battlefield and we have 9 paid up attendees.
Two names were not on my list. Dene Green and Martyn Simpson.
If Martyn or Dene are here, can you contact me via email billygoatesq at gamil dot com, or pm me.
If anyone knows either Dene or Martyn, ask them to get in touch if they don't frequent this forum.
I need to know which army they intend to use.
For all....
Check that the army I have next to your name is the one you intend using, or if there's a blank, let me know ASAP. Ideally I'd like everyone to have a different admyy, but I'm not precious about it if you wish to use an army that's already been taken.
Promise, I will make my mind up as to what I am going to field this week.
Derek
No rush Derek, but thought I'd give people a little nudge. Not too hard, just enough to know I'm there... waiting...😅😂🤣
Things are coming together nicely. Dene has made contact and wishes to begin hostilities early, so I shall be travelling to Burton to take him up on his challenge!
He's yet to play a game, but has a PPF army and the rules. He is a regular at the Squarebashing events run by Simon Clarke at the same venue.
Will do 😂🤣😅
Charlie says "don't buy toy soldiers from strange men."
Myself, Martin and Simon P had a re education day on AK47 at my Wargame Emporium. 2 games Simon won the first game and I won the Second game. Both were defenders ?
Simon will put up a more fuller report no doubt with pictures etc.
My Army will be Army number 3: Conlonial Settlers Army.
It will be a bit rag tagged this year, as I haven't had time to do what I wanted to do with my Army and it's been a long time since I ve paid attention to it as well ? But hopefully I can improve on it for next year, hopefully I know what I am doing for nexts year games ? Lol ?
If people are short of things please ask ? As I do have a lot of bits for this game that they may burrow for the day ?
Miles
Miles, well done for hosting.
Like mine, most of my AK47 figures are from the last century and are showing their age. As a minimum rebasing would help considerably but they really need a repaint.
I'm looking forward to the battle reports.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Good to hear that people are refreshing themselves on the rules. That'll be 4 people who know what's what, including Julian 😅😂🤣
Still painting The Wild Geese and 2 Dakota kits to build. Looking forward to the game with Miles on Tuesday which will be steep curve of learning for me as Miles is now officially an AK47 expert!
Mike
I wouldn't sat an expert, just a better re education and understanding of the rules. Lots to re learn.
But that's the same for all the rules played this year....
For some reason we didn't play for a while ?
Miles
All,
I have tidied up the front page with current attendees, their chosen army and a couple of TBC's.
Please check that I have you down for the correct army and if you haven't decided, let me know ASAP.
I'm thinking of sorting the morning games fairly soon, so that you know which side of the fence you're on, and who you'll be fighting.
Logistics for the day will also be posted here, but it would be great if you could all email me ASAP so that I can send out details for you to save rather than on the forum.

The countdown is at 26. When we reach 15 days to War, I'm hoping to have another announcement to make. High level international negotiations are underway that are coded top secret, but when they are concluded, I'll announce the outcome on the 25th September, which will be 15 days to War!
I'm pleased to say that all attendees have paid their entry and we're close to everyone deciding on their army. So thank you from me for making the organisation side of things easy.
Still room for more so continue spreading the word and looking in cupboards, wardrobes and under desks for any spare gamers hiding away who might be interested.
Sean
I have now paid up (leave for 9th has been confirmed). Unfortunately this does leave you with an uneven number of attendees though. I'll be on the Dorset 'bus' along with Martin and Mike - up with the larks.
Having blown the dust of my box of figures, scratched my head as to what army they were, I think it might have been People's Popular Front as there are a lot of militia basis. Looking at your list armies already chosen I could field them as a Communist Intervention Army with the addition of a liability unit.
I have not played this since a games day in Oxford somewhere in 2011 (?) when I seem to remember my militia being shot by one of Miles' 'gunship' helicopters. However I did play it a lot during the writing of the rules so hopefully it will come back to me with a couple of practice games. I don't have a cloth though I do have some standard scenery basis which I could bring along.
Looking forward to some fun games and meeting those of you I don't know.
Power to the people and down with imperialists and their lapdog dictators ..... or something like that.
Chris
This news makes me very happy Chris! Glad you can make it.
11 players is fine. I'm not counted so will play if no one else signs up.

To all AK Day Generals!
Please check your private messages. President Chumbo has kindly forwarded you a 10% discount code for Geek Villain mats.
Can I ask that if you make use of it, message me. I don't need any details, other than whether you have made use of it or not.
Message Ends.
(if it hasn't come through or you can't see the code let me know)
You can't blame a Dictator for trying though 😁
And we all know that it's 20% off really, and that President Chumbo trousers the other 10% :)

Shhh. That's a state secret. If you tell anyone the bounty on Papa Whiskeys head goes up by another zero.
Just one zero>? That probably represents deflation, the state the Logosian economy is in :)

This may be the wrong thread but...
Question re the shooting rules for Missiles. They are described as having AT Capability as have all Tank and Towed Guns and RCL. How is this AT Capability reflected in the Shooting?
Mike.
Julian, if I didn't like the criticism I wouldn't have asked. Advise duly noted. I ve only use the transportation once so far. So might re distribute the 15 points and only have one walking ? Or collect all 30 points and push out the extras ?
Miles
Miles,
You just know you want more tanks ;D

Hello Mike
Missile receives no shooting modifier bonus at a target (armoured or otherwise), but it is not penalised against armour or helicopter in the way that small arms/mortars and HMG are (-3). Missile does also have the re-roll shooting option.
See my comment in the Waging War thread, last post, where i talk about surface to air missiles.
Julian
Julian,
Thanks it is now very clear.
Mike
Julian, just another clipLe of points for you.
After a Close Assualt is completed, are bother units deemed to have shot for that turn?
Also, can the Passive Unit who has been assaulted then launch a Close Assualt later in that turn if they have yet to be activated?
Mike
I haven't enough for tanks or upgrades on them but I can get a few more S/A bases on the table, I lost a lot of troops the other day to the Reserve box, like you say Julian. It's been a while since I ve played this game and I lost my old army lists which is helpful-NOT! So I ve had to start from fresh.
Now I ve pointed up this army, and I am making swaps for more appropriate vehicles to the gun classes I ve got. I will do a mid 1960's British Army for next years games.
Then I can cover quite a few years of the diminishing "British" ruling of Africa and the Middle East!
I need some Battlefront Chieftains and FV 432 ? But that's next year !
Miles
Julian,
Again, that's very helpful, thanks.
Am I correct to assume that Aggresive Shooting markers can be applied during Close Assault?
Mike.
These are my Saladin A/Cs do you have an idea who would have made them ?

My force is British based. Colonial Settlers.
The Saladin models are cast metal, Martin seems to think even diecast ? But the metal seems too soft for that, well that's my feeling anyway ? The wheels and original gun were Soldered on steel rods. I replaced the gun barrels with my own Aluminium tubes and plastic tubes so I could achieve the stepped effect on the turret.

Miles,
I thought it looked diecast too. Could yours be a Matchbox one, like this?

Miles' army is native to uMbongo and the great colonial families of the country, in particular the dynasty who made their fortunes in cooking oil.
But with ties to the British government and royal family and high financial deals in London.
Hence the military help, it maybe older British and even mothballed equipment and current and ex British soldiers of all ranks.
The company Vegan Enterprises has big ideas that will make a lot of money for their adopted country and far away countries ?
Good for all concerned?

After taking Julian's advice on board, I ve dropped the carrier allowance giving me an extra 30 points, made my militia foot 12 + so hoping it can attack but more defend better, also put in a couple more RPG's for S/A as they can fire as S/Arms bases.

Miles,
I like the way your army includes the evolution of UK tank development, Comet, Centurion and Chieftain. The SADF used Comets and had some on charge as late as the 1970s iirc.

I've updated the front page with news that the AK day is now also sponsored by The Army Painter. They are sending a set of 6 paints and a masterclass brush to me to provide as another raffle prize :)
https://ak47reloaded.blogspot.com/ (https://ak47reloaded.blogspot.com/)
Just a reminder of the blog that I've been working on with uMbongan information for your delectation.
Sean,
Well done in getting the sponsorship from Geek Villain and Army Painter.
Do you know if there will a PP discount code for orders collected on the day?
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Not sure. I haven't asked because at times of pandemic it's all been a bit hard all round.
You're saving on postage though, so if you order anything heavy it works out as a big saving!
I'll let Martin give a definitive answer. What I would say, and this is to everyone, please use this opportunity to stock up on your Piggie figures for the winter painting campaign. Martin will bring along what you order and you can sit and marvel at them over lunch. You'll also be contributing to the the Weymouth economy, ensuring Peter Pig are awarded the local award for commerce. Think of it as an early Christmas present to yourself.
Order as much as you can folks!
Good shout - will be making sure to get an order in ahead of the event!
Great work getting Army Painter onside to sponsor, mate.
Sean has sorted a 15% discount for orders collected on the day, collected on the day.
Code = AKay top secret
martin 8)
Warlords,
For your information, I've been made aware of a problem with the Geek Villain code. I'm sorting it out and will get back to you.
Thank you to Martin for putting this on the Miniatures Page.
There is still time amd space for anyone as yet undecided or previously said they can't come, to come along and play. In fact right up until the last minute, entries will be open!
OK... The Geek Villain code is only for their fleece mats, so won't work if ordering their cloth mats.
Their fleece masts really are excellent (i reckon)
martin :)
Just some thoughts on the days logistics:
1. Its looking like we'll be using 6 tables and those who've stated they have cloths and scenery I'll be contacting towards the end of next week to confirm what they're bringing.
2. Please have a written version of your list available to show you're opponent. Some of you are more experienced than others with the rules, so this will help with clarity.
3. Please ensure you have with you dice, tape measure, relevant markers, play sheets and battle sheets. These last two Martin has kindly said he'll print off for us, but just in case of printer failure, have a back up.
4. I've asked Hammy if we can use a spare table for our own little bring and buy. However please beware that no one will be manning this and any items left will be at your own risk. Battlefield Hobbies, if they're OK with this, will accept no liability for lose or damage to items displayed.
5. Those on you with a camera, phone or otherwise, please take as many pictures as you can to record the event for posterity. If you can, be aware of whose pictures you take so that any future compilation of images can be properly accredited.
6. Get those orders in to Peter Pig as early as possible. We're very lucky to have a 15% discount and it would be great if as many of us as possible could make us of it! :)
No doubt I'll be thinking of more things to add to this list, but if anyone has any thoughts, post them up here please.
Just a small update from Battlefield Hobbies.
They are happy for us to bring along a few bits and pieces to sell off to each other. Old books, unwanted figures, unfinished projects.
No undercutting of items available in the shop, and please don't bring the entire contents of your loft that you've been meaning to get rid of for years!
I'll likely sort through some books, some old rules and maybe a few figures I have lying around.
Will there be room for around 200 x 28mm Zulus still on sprue. Don't think think I will ever get round to doing something with them.
Derek
There will be room... Whether there will be any takers is another matter!
Right I've got my PP order in! Many thanks for the discount, too.
(and now I'm thinking "well, if I get in there early enough I could probably get and base 'em roughly, spray off with a colour primer and get on the table ready for the first game..." ::) )
Brings a new take on urgent reinforcements!
*UPDATE*
Hopefully you're all getting set for war in 8 days time. I've emailed a few of you with requests for copies of your army list. If I haven't emailed you, and you've yet to send it to me, could you please do so by Wednesday.
Fingers crossed that the fuel situation resolves itself by next weekend. What with COVID and now this, its a miracle we're going to be able to actually go ahead 😂😅🙏👍
Should anyone find themselves in a situation where you think you won't be able to attend either due to fuel shortages or COVID, please let me know by Thursday night to allow the necessary juggling off players. This is especially true if you are bringing a table of scenery.
I'll confirm who is bringing what by Sunday evening. I'll ensure over provision, just in case of last minute issues.
If anyone has any queries, worries, concerns or issues, please flag them upto me ASAP.
I fully intend that this will be an annual event, current planning being it will be the 2nd Saturday of October or as close to it as possible. This may alter once myself and Miles sit down to draw up a calendar as I don't want to clash with his PBI/CWB days.

Player Etiquette
Just a couple of things about standards on the day.
The most important thing is that you and your opponent have fun. It is incumbent on you to do your very best to ensure your opponent enjoys the game with you. So please bear in mind the following...
1. No phones to be answered or calls to be made at the gaming table. Obviously if you are expecting an emergency call, that's fine, but excuse yourself from the table and take it. Your opponent must promise not to move any of your toys whilst you are gone!
2. If your opponent is struggling with a rule, help him out.
3. No 'gotchas'. By this I mean, please don't be sneaky regarding a rule that may gain you an advavantage at the expense eof your opponents enjoyment. Not everyone has played the rules as much as others, so play nice. If you move a tank unit around your opponents flank and seize an objective using a movement bonus for example, this isn't a gotcha. Using troops that don't look like professional figures and then announcing them as such as you assault is probably being sneaky.
4. Unless invited to do so don't touch your opponents figures.
5. When rolling your dice, please ensure your opponent has seen them. No snatching them up declaring a double 6 for shooting! 😊
6..... I can't think of a 6.
The tagline is 'Play Nice!'.
Thank you. Normal service may now resume.

Attached are the scenery set-up notes for the Airport for use at the AK47 Game Day this Saturday.I am happy to answer questions beforehand.
This set-up should allow the Airfield to look right but not dominate and skew the game adversely.
I will provide the 6 x 3 mat, 4 Objective markers, all the 3 Airport Buildings, 3 Runway Scenery (and Rough Ground) templates, models and my 7th scenery piece.
My opponent(s) will need to provide their own 7 scenery pieces.
AK47 Game Day - Hobee City Airport table set-up Summary
Runway (3ft X 1ft)
• Defender lays Runway after roads placed.
• Not counted as one of the 14 scenery pieces.
• Cannot be placed overlapping a road.
• Runway will be in 2 Zones.
• A short edge of the Runway must touch a short table edge.
• Runway counts as a road for movement but not for arrivals.
• Movement is affected by Runway Scenery templates.
Runway Scenery templates.
• Maximum 3 Perspex 8x6 templates placed on Runway
• Treated as Rough Ground for line of sight, cover etc.
• Modelled as Dakota aircraft, support vehicles, cargo etc,
• Minimum 2 after Attacker moves scenery.
• Runway Scenery template is Rough Ground if moved away.
Airfield Buildings - Terminal and Control Tower.
• Airfield Buildings placed along Runway long edges.
• Cannot be moved by Attacker.
• Terminal model (12") stands on a double template
• Counts as 2 Building pieces.
• Control Tower Counts as 1 Building piece.
• Airfield Buildings can be Objectives
Standard "AK 47 Reloaded" scenery set-up rules apply
Common sense and a D6 roll to decide any unforeseen problems

Just out of interest is drop off/pick up free or does the airport charge like at Bournemouth? Can't see the long stay car park is it near or will have to get a bus?
Chris
When I ran Brixcon I had all of the tables set up by participants before the game started, and then tables were allocated at random, subject to the proviso that you couldn't paly on your own table. Of course this was old rules, so there was no moving the pieces about, but we did have some tables that provided challenges - like the volcano that emitted smoke, and the dam that took up half the table. I, personally, do not like most scenery placement rules that you see in most sets these days and I'm probably in a minority in that respect. It's probably heresy, but I'd have suggested that tables were laid out with the terrain and just then played on. When I play a game I'm more interested in pushing the lead than pushing the scenery, and I like to leave as much time for that as possible.
Quote from: Julian Bonny on October 03, 2021, 10:40:02 AM
Putting 14 scenery pieces on the table is not a simple task.
Sticking to all the rules on distances between objectives, distances between templates and the edge, distances between templates which are not touching, correct amount of templates within the sectors whilst all of this has to be around the roads. It is not a simple task and it can easily start eating up time and setting the game off on a staggered , fractious footing.
When Derek and i played the first game last week the scenery and its correct placement it was clear that this element of the game Derek had not given the scenery the consideration it requires . You can not understand the intricacies from reading the rules. You understand them when you are actually doing it. We did not have the same problem in the 2nd game, lessons had been taken on board, by both of us.
I would not like to battle on this table. I will not be doing so as it stands.
I'm an upfront type of guy. I call a spade a spade. It is not personal, it is simply where i stand with regards to gaming on this coming AKDay. The scenery pieces are divine Mike and i would love to do battle on it, but for me , not this game day and so early on in the development of everyone's understanding of AK47.
Julian
Julian, it's better to be up-front and direct. Your view is appreciated and respected.
The Airport scenario is virtually untried, although Miles and I played it just once recently. I was the defender and was roundly beaten by Miles. So it is impossible to predict how the 2 games will play out.
Frankly, having to build two DC2 plastic kits ( my choice of course) has been a nightmare. The last time I built an aircraft kit I was 14. However, I hope the overall scenery will add to the enjoyment of the day.
Mike
I am a little concerned regarding the airport layout. With the runway filing 2 sectors I would think the placement of another 14 pieces would prove difficult to achieve and produce a possibly disjointed game due to too much scenery in too small a remaining place. The defender has a hard enough job as it is.
I think the layout and work that has gone into it is wonderful and applaud the effort is has taken.
Perhaps modify the placement rules that it MUST be tucked into a corner may help.
Derek
Sorry Julian, I don't think treating the runway as water will work. It blocks of such a huge area from receiving re-inforcement units and movement. Then what about units forced to fall back into water. Are they immediately destroyed? Apart from that I doubt many of us have boats!
Derek
Julian,
I can see the logic here. The idea of using the water feature rule is clever.
Just to clarify how I have set out the table.
The Runway Scenery templates (3) are Rough Ground and are 8" x6". They are each counted as one of the 14 scenery pieces.
The Runway itself is 1ft X 3ft and starts in one corner and the Runway Scenery templates are placed on it.
This may help your deliberations.
Mike
I recall that somewhere in the rules there is something about a template may only hold 1 unit (but cant find it now). If I am wrong please disregard this.
Can a double template hold 2 units? If so I do not like the thought of a double building template like the terminal building in a unmoveable position on the defenders side. The number of templates being "fixed" with no chance of being moved by the attacker is already reduced by the runway and objectives. To make a further 2 templates unavailable I feel is unbalanced.
About the airport
I am trying very hard not to be negative about this. I would rather have the terminal building open to being moved. Ok it may have to be a hotel instead but.....
After reading Mikes comment (we were typing at the same time). I am taking it that the runway is purely scenic and only the 3 templates on it are terrain. If that is the case then just restrict it to 1' x 2', and max of 2 items on it. Other wise that is 3 (rough ground on the runway), plus 4 objective pieces, plus 2 for the terminal means there are only 5 other pieces left for the attacker to move.
Derek
Quote from: Julian Bonny on October 03, 2021, 02:40:09 PM
mike , thank you. i have studied the photos.
I can only think in terms of inches.
what is your runway made up of ?
i.e. how many pieces and what size in inches ?
The Runway is made of 2 separate flooring strips each of 6" X 36", laid side on at long edges.
We could shorten the Runway length to 24" and so it would not extend by 12" into a second Zone. Although this would limit the potential placement of the Airport Buildings.
As an alternative to shorten the Runway it could be classed as open ground and not a road for movement, then perhaps only 1 or 2 Rough Ground templates may do the job. This would allow more templates to be used elsewhere on the table.
Mike

okay, i now understand. how do you differentiate between the actual runway template and the runway ground ( the shiny dark sheets) ?
Yes, they are clear Perspex.
Let me set it up on my table and see how it works.
Mike
Julian,
Yes, all fine. I appreciate that I could be either attacker or defender.
Please, continue.
Mike
The 12" X 36" Runway is not Perspex, it is in 2 sections of 6" X 36" each made of flooring material.
Julian,
The two planes are approx 12" wingspan and 9" body.
Mike
OK, as event organiser, I appreciate the requirement for clarity here as it is something needs to fit as closely as possible with the rules as written.
However, I am very appreciative of Mike going to the effort with this to produce a unique table. Having known him for a good few years, there is no way he will be seeking any advantage, or wishing to confuse other players with his table.
If after bits have been ironed out anyone doesn't wish to play on the airport table that's fine, I'll sort you out to play on another table, but I'm sure most people will want to.
One thing is for sure, the airport table WILL be used in the manner Mike intended it to. There is also the possibility 2 other players will be playing on it on the afternoon so clarity is important.
Please all remember that this isn't a competitive event. It's a fun day of gaming. So a little creativity is welcome to increase the enjoyment of all. Win lose or draw I want each and every player to go home having had 2 good. games, had a few laughs and eager to return next year for the next phase in the story of uMbongo.

Sean, thats what we have been doing all day. It was never about a competitive edge. It has been about being able to play the game using the pieces.
Never doubted it!
I am very grateful to Julian who has spent most of Sunday afternoon stress-testing the Airport game table set-up and I am pleased to say the Final version is now ready. Julian your deep knowledge of the rules is much appreciated.
There are a number of changes but they make the set-up a better fit for the AK47 Rules and more streamlined.
I will have a print-out of these details for the day and if my opponent is the Defender, naturally I will assist him with the set-up to ensure we have an enjoyable game.
I am also very grateful to Miles for the loan of his Airport Buildings and to him and Martin for the Dakota kits. The models are almost finished and will hopefully add to the visual impact (but give me figures and tanks to paints any day).
Mike
Julian,
Rather than treat the Runway Scenery as Water I have opted for Rough Ground as it better reflects the visuals on the table . Therefore the Defender has used 5 pieces for the Airport Scenery.
I could not find a reference to enforcing a gap between scenery or Zone edges other than any gap left should be a vehicle wide. The two Runway Scenery pieces are there to interrupt the long section of concrete and cause vehicles to zig-zag around them.
I appreciate it may not be perfect but I am happy with the outcome.
Thanks again for your input, it has certainly improved the scenario.
Mike
PS Those taxi drivers look a bit shifty but if they are keen then the're hired.
The 3 objectives were 2 of the villages and the Air traffic control tower. The 4th was one half of the terminal building. If I remember rightly I wrote that in the Short battle report a couple of weeks back ?
But if your not sure it's the 3 templates with "Statues" on them, as I always use these for my objectives markers. As they represent mementoes from Previous Occupation Governments? Or Occupational Masters ? I keep meaning to do a 'PITS' type of Soldier for a Victorian "esq" monument?
Miles.
I ve actually finished my Markers for now.
I ve included my Dead markers and Objectives Markers too !
I ve got
Bright Green: Activated
Bright Red: Shot
Black: Pin
Yellow: Morale Boost
Blue: Move bonus
Bright Orange: Aggressive Shot
Dark(er) Green: Impossed Morale ( UN hat figures - observers)
Brown: Dug In
Light Blue: Air/Artillery Strike
Metal colour: Professional
Hopefully colours that sort of suit the representation of it ? But also noticeable? Strong Plain Colours.
Dead figures on a 3 x 3 base.
Statues on 4 x 4 base as Objectives markers X4.
Added one. White Crosses on Coins for NoN Activated units. So I know when I haven't as yet activated a "missing unit" ?

I'll sort it today.
I think if everybody looks to bring their own 7 pieces if terrain, then we should be fine so long as we have enough cloths. Anyone who has 2 sets of terrain, and they don't mind, bring them along as well just in case. It will ensure variety of choice as well.
I will be bringing my box along so that is about 22 pieces or so. have 2 mats as well which will be making the journey.
Cheers
Derek
I am bringing one and a half table's worth of Scenery. (21 pieces) I can bring 2 cloths if that helps? One Green and one Desert type. But both marked up for AK47/CWB
So that's 14pieces for my proposed table if all is needed ?
Plus my own 7 pieces for an (away) table ?
Miles
As listed somewhere else (too many threads to find stuff now...), I will bring a full table's worth of stuff.
Simon
CWB focus would be good, I think I am hosting a game at WWW this year ? Stewart will confirm this.
As for this year and because of events that have gone previously CWB had to be dropped for now ? But in the agenda to be discussed is a "time table" as such for when we could fit in the varied PP games and game days over a year or 2 year period ? So hopefully giving the popular and even not so well played games a chance to come to the forefront ? Giving them there chance to shine and be dusted off ?
But for now AK47 long live the Right of those who Own their land and country ?
May the righteous ones live forever ?
See you on Saturday.
Miles
I've just realised I haven't painted my general and bodyguard yet....

Everyone sorted out their army now ? :)
Got a couple of lorries on their way (should have been here Monday!) but if they don't arrive in time it's not the end of the world...
Julian you're a good & kind chap - I've got a couple of proxies and should be well but really appreciate that offer, pal.
All the best
Jim
I have surplus trucks which I will have along. Can use those if needed.
Derek
All will be revealed tomorrow. It promises to be a bumpy ride!
One things for certain... Nothing will ever be the same in uMbongo come night fall tomorrow 😊
Good luck to the Government and Rebels...
Looking forward to all the pictures, videos, and news reports 🙂
Howard
To all attendees tomorrow...
Battlefield Hobbies have now confirmed food for 12 including one gluten free.
The premises will be opening at 9am, so I'll be aiming to get there just beforehand in the hope of getting in a few minutes early!
All going to depend on traffic. I am aiming at being there at about 8:45. give or take.
Derek
You'll be pleased to know I'm NEARLY ready.
YAY...... for what?
All painted and packed, ready for the Team Bus pick-up at 5am tomorrow.
Looking forward to a great day's gaming.
Mike
I hope those who are going to the games day arrive safely, manage their social greetings and distancing.
But along with all these problems have some good games and roll lots of 6's.
6's are good.
I think I'm ready now. Time to set the alarm.
Sleep well warriors.
