Title: Is group build an owned term?
Post by: martin goddard on June 09, 2021, 06:14:26 PM
Question
Is the phrase "group build" a phrase /title used by any company in particular or is it a generic term for what we are doing (and could not in any way be confused with another company)?

If it is a generic term like "army" then fine.

If it is associated to any one company such as "Work rest and play" we need a new title (which should be easy).

This may seem minor, but i want to publicise the hard work that we are all doing and wish it not be be sidelined by "Hey that's our idea" type  comments.

Hope we can find a finger lickin' title which does what it says on the tin?

Martin,

Now that I have been introduced to the term, a quick Google of "wargames" and "group build" indicates (to me) that it is a widely-used term in the English-speaking gaming world.

Yes are participated in a few across several forums and Facebook groups. Seem to be quite common in the military modelling world too.

But if we called it "THE 15mm Group Build" (TM) we could perhaps corner the market?  ;D

I have been in countless group builds over the years.  From scale model building to painting figures.  Never seen anyone try and claim the title?  Are Warlord Games on the loose?

I think you should call this one the RFCM Group Build, because that is what it is.

I have been in a few 15mm group builds in the past.

First time I've ever come across such a term, probably because I am a poorly motivated painter, so when I get the urge I need to crack on with my own stuff.
