Hi All,
I'm looking for some information about the above named battle but am drawing blanks using google. I know the Parliamentarians held the bridge trying to stop Royalists moving out towards oxford and that the Royalists tried to take it back and demolish it on the 11th January 1646 but have been wondering what the force compositions would have been? Are there any books/sources I could use to find the information?

You may already have it, but "The English civil war atlas" by Nick Lipscombe is probably the best one stop source. It is published by Osprey and is very good value.
There used to be a very knowledgeable chap on here but he has moved on.
It would be quite effective to contact the local museum in that area and I think they would be the best informed(?)
martin :)
Alan,
3,000 Royalists with artillery are mentioned here:
https://www.abingdon.gov.uk/feature-articles/abingdon-war-1642-1646
That site may also give you some pointers as to who else you could contact.
There are some maps and other information here:
https://culhamstation.co.uk/bits/tollhouses/tollhouses3.html
There were lots of skirmishes in Berkshire with scant details, it seems.
Do please let us know what you find out!
Simon
Wonderful! Thank you both!
I don't own the Atlas yet, but it's on my to buy list!
Alan,
Keep us yup to date on your progress. The Civil War was full of smaller encounters like this which are eminently gameable.
