Hello,
Some of you might already know that Duncan passed on Monday. The time he was editor of Wargames Illustrated had a big influence on my wargaming.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
That is sad news, and I'd not heard. Thanks for sharing, Martin.
Simon
Martin, thank you for the information.
There will be much sadness at the loss of such a wargames king.
Duncan was such a nice chap.
He was always helpful and unassuming.
martin :(
That is also news to me. His was the first wargames magazine to withstand the rigours of business and was a huge influence on my wargaming from the 80s through to the early 2000s. It was a massive help with my interest in the Italian Wars, the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. In its early days it was the main way of finding out what was available in the wargaming world. A sad loss to the hobby.
Lovely man, just simply sad news!
Blimey, it really is the end of an era... RIP, Duncan
Very sad.
I think his magazines had a huge impact on the hobby in the pre Internet age. I remember the excitement of looking forward to the magazine in the local Smiths, then getting home and reading it cover to cover within an hour. I'd then reread it countless times over the month awaiting the next issue.
I still remember favourite articles such as an ACW version of DBA my M. Goddard and a series of articles on how to make cowboys out of Fimo clay
Yes very sad.
The magazine's had a huge impact on my development in the hobby.
The photos were inspiring, the articles informative and the adverts a way of finding out what the latest shiny toys were.
I've got bound copies of the first 36 Miniature Wargames in the loft. I think I might dig them out this weekend for old times sake.
