I'm building my ships this afternoon and adding some guns and deck crew.
I can't identify what the piece on the left is though?

Do you know which pack it came from, Sean?
The photo's not very clear on my phone - is it definitely a bit of ship, as opposed to some metal "sprue" (there's probably a technical word for that!)?
Simon
Sorry. Its from the deck guns pack.

Sean,
Could they be open gun ports with barrels sticking out, for below-deck batteries?
Presumably they would be cut up and stuck on individually?
I may of course be completely wrong!
Simon
I agree with the colonel - open gun ports with projecting barrels for lower level batteries for those lucky enough to have 2 deckers...
Neil and Simon are correct, they are open gun ports for lower decks.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Thanks Martin! A good challenge set by Sean, though!
I have a lovely fleet, but it was all built for me in Catalonia, so I didn't get to see all the constituent parts :)
Simon
Good sleuthing.
martin :)
Open port holes, you have not been looking at the painted models carefully enough.
So your expensive ships Simon have no open gun ports.
I didn't say that, Les - just that I hadn't assembled them myself.
Simon
To be fair Les, they are tiny, and with my clumsy fingers I may not end up using them. But they are certainly great to have as an option. The pictures of the painted ships on the website are great but unless you know they're there, I'm not sure anyone would pick them out as being what the bare metal is in the packs of guns.
But this just reinforces the fact that Martin, in producing these models, gives you all you could want and a bit more that you had not asked for!!
Try using some tweezers and stop complaining about your generously propositioned digits and get them neatly stuck on and painted as a homage to Martins sculpting skills, PP workshop for the quality casting (Mike) and getting the correct number into the packet (Nigel).
As a shipbuilder how would you fire your guns without opening ports, and they would be a contrasting colour, and you have plenty of them to choose from!
Oh and don't shoot the messenger if you don't like the answer!!!
I use tweezers, but they are certainly difficult to manipulate. Modelers use this instrument:https://jordirubio.com/es/id-33036.html (https://jordirubio.com/es/id-33036.html) a pencil with a soft wax tip that I have never used, but I have sometimes improvised a homemade version with a bit of blu-tack on the end of a old brush.
That's a wonderful little tool, Acronim - I'd never heard of the like before.
For those in countries other than yours, this link may be a more direct one (I got redirected): https://jordirubio.com/en/id-33036.html

Thanks for the redirection. Its a Green Stuff product, so sure you can find near you.
