Here are twelve things that might indicate you have been war-gaming for a very long time.
1. You have used Bellona products in your games
2. You have wargamed with flat figures
3. You have met any single one of Charles Grant senior, Donald Featherstone, Tony Bath, Neville Dickinson, Frank Hinchliffe, Peter Laing, John Sanders or Phil Barker.
4. You bought a new wargaming book by Featherstone or Grant.
5. You used exclusively enamels at one time.
6.You made your own trees.
7. You attended either Southern, Midland or Northern Militaire.
8. You attended Salute at Kensington town hall or Partizan at Kelham hall.
9. You went to the cinema to see "Waterloo" or "Battle of Britain" when they first came out.
10. You bought the Airfix waterloo farmhouse when it first came out.
11. You attended a Navy day.
12. You bought a commercial set of rules that were stapled together.
Score 0-3 You young Turk! You have a long gaming career ahead.
Score 4-7 The old days were much better.
Score 8-10 Young folk today don't know what gaming was really like.
Score 9-12 ARE YOU OK DEAR? NICE YOUNG MAN CALLED
martin
Great news - I only scored 4. I must have a bright future ahead. Or else I just missed out on most of the best parts...
Simon
I scored 8, so does that make me a veteran?
I didn't meet any of the old guard, make my own trees, go to the movies or had flat figures
(Unless standing on them counts)
Stewart
I can count 9. I haven't used flats, attended a Militaire or made my own trees. Now where did I leave my zimmer frame?
John
I scored three.
Helen
6. Still some time before I get my bus pass............
Neil
I managed to crank up a 6 which puts me squarely in the grumbly old git category. I still think I have some tins of enamels lurking somewhere... One of my earliest memories was me on my tricycle in the back garden watching them film 'Battle of Britain' overhead. Does that count?
6 for me. When the postman delivered Bellona pack of gun emplacements and foxholes the light suddenly turned on for wargaming for me.
Mike
Only 3 for me and a 1 for Ben- guess we are late starters.
Dave& Ben
Yes, well errr..........must retire to the billiard room for a brandy.
Scored: 1,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,12 plus a signed copy of Featherstone's All for a Shilling a Day which I bought direct when 16, and a vast collection of Wargamer's Newsletter which I have since donated to Liverpool Wargames Association (rather surprised that didn't appear in the list).
A very British poll. But I came up with being young so I'll take it.
Score 9 -
Another ...... used to get the Don Featherstone 'Newsletter'.
My My.
We have a cross section of old and young (Helen, Dave and Ben). Good news I think.
martin :)
Just 4 for me. I can live with that.
Nick
Well done "young" Nick.
martin :)
For a grumpy old git I managed 7. Maybe being out of country for quite a while played a part there.
Derek
11.
But I could have done 5 for number 3.
You picked the wrong films, perhaps if Barbarella or Shaft were the list it would be 12!!
Liife is full of missed opportunities. I still haven't seen the we don't need no stinking badges film despite being a Bogart fan.
Adding Pete Gilder to Q3 would give me an extra point and put me in the 8-10 range.
I may have bought the Airfix Waterloo farmhouse when it was first released in 1973 but cannot remember when I bought it but I was still at school, so it would have been before 1975.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
HA! Just scored a 1, so I must be the youngest one in this assembly 8)
(Perhaps my alleged full age should be checked? :o )
LluĂs
Rather surprised at a 6. I feel so much younger 😂🤣

Don't worry Sean, you look much older :) ;D
Simon
Don't worry Sean you will not catch us up!!
Hope you enjoyed the tennis this weekend.
Lluis you missed WW1 so you are young.
martin :)
Scored a 10----My gaming mate and I went to see Waterloo 4 times in same fortnight. twice at Kings Cinema in Bristol and twice at Keynsham (The Charlton)??
Sorry to drag up an old topic but had not seen it before.
Crikey, just squeezed into 9. Eh? What was the question again?...
I scored a 6. Not bad for a non-active wargamer...
If a summer job making and painting figures counts as well then that would bump it up to a 7.
I actually scored 9, only my age saved me. As the 2 films you picked were at the cinemas when I was too young to be able to see them at that time ? If you had picked the likes of A Bridge too far or Star Wars, then that would have been different. I ve still got the trees I made as well, stored in Sealed Ice Cream tubs.
