Title: Comparing some ACW rules
Post by: Norm on April 18, 2021, 10:17:58 AM
I have been looking at 4 rule sets for mechanisms that reflect the fire / charge process of a regiment attacking another regiment.

Made for an interesting read. I may give it a go with some of the rules on my shelf - FoB2 and Civil War Battles as well as Black Powder.

Interesting comparison, what happened to the Civil War Battles section, I could not find it even through the figures and basing was for CWB.

Interesting experiment, Norm, thanks for posting the link. You're always going to get questions if you post such articles here and haven't't included the relevant RFCM ruleset  ;).

TBH, I got the impression reading Norm's article that he assumed folks on this forum would be familiar as to how CWB worked. Wouldn't mind giving it a go myself though as I haven't played CWB for a few years, and it is a brigade game and not a regimental level game.

I have CWB (Peter Pig) and Rank & File (Crusader Miniatures) and GHQ's Macro ACW rule set on the shelf. All justified a place at the table, but the longer my articles, the more likely it becomes to loose audience!

It sounds like there's meat for a second article there Norm! Same set-up, same duce throws?

Yes indeed, I wasn't sure about the fixed dice rolls, but on another forum, someone said using something like the fixed dice sequence is a 'thing' used in analysis, so that was a bit of luck :-)

I posted the link here mainly because I had used Peter Pig figures .... and they do look very nice :-)

Nicely painted and based Peter Pig figures, indeed, Norm.  8)
